
Bobcats Take Final Game of Weekend Series with Marist, 11-9

Baseball Splits Doubleheader with 9-4 Loss and 11-9 Win to Split Final Series
The Bobcats dropped game one of Saturday's doubleheader, 9-4, before coming from behind to win the second game.
Colton Bender (Lebanon, Connecticut) had four RBIs in the doubleheader with two in each game while Derek Kasperzyk (Killingworth, Connecticut) had three runs scored and two RBIs between the two games. Dylan Lutz (Denver, Colorado) had a three-RBI triple in the second game.
Marist jumped out to a 4-1 lead in game one through three innings after Evan Vulgamore (Bow, New Hampshire) got the Bobcats on the board with a sacrifice fly.
Quinnipiac attempted a seventh inning comeback but the Bobcats could not overcome a 9-1 deficit. Vulgamore singled up the middle to score Gianni Arici (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) and Bender ripped a two-RBI double but that was all the runs the Bobcats could manage in the 9-4 loss.
The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in game two on Kasperzyk's RBI single up the middle but the Red Foxes took a lead the next inning with a pair of runs.
Quinnipiac answered back in the bottom of the fourth as Matt DeRosa (North Haven, Connecticut) singled home Ian Ostberg (Northampton, Massachusetts) and tie the game once again.
After two Marist runs in the top of the fifth inning, Quinnipiac responded with seven in the bottom half to take a 9-4 lead. Ostberg had a two-RBI double, Kasperzyk drew an RBI walk and Lutz drilled a three-RBI triple to highlight the inning and take the lead. Lutz later come home to score as Vulgamore reached on a fielding error.
Despite the seven-run fifth inning from Quinnipiac, Marist scored five runs in the next two innings to tie the game again. With the score tied in the seventh inning, the Bobcats took the lead for good as Bender pulled a two-RBI single through the left side.

THIRD INNING
- Kasperzyk singled to center and advanced to second on the next pitch on a wild pitch.
- Lutz followed on the next pitch by pulling a single through the right side to put runners on the corners for Vulgamore who brought home Kasperzyk with a sacrifice fly to cut Marist's lead to 4-1.
SEVENTH INNING
- The Bobcats attempted a comeback in the final inning but came up a few runs short.
- Arici reached on an error and with two outs in the inning, advanced to third on a Lutz single to right field.
- Vulgamore singled up the middle to score Arici easily and Lutz moved up to third.
- After a stolen base from Vulgamore, Bender brought home both runners to cut the lead to 9-4.

SECOND INNING
- Quinnipiac took a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the inning as Sam LaChance (Dover, New Hampshire) drew a six-pitch walk with two outs in the inning and DeRosa was walked on four straight pitches.
- Kasperzyk grounded a single up the middle to score LaChance to take a 1-0 lead.
FOURTH INNING
- Ostberg was hit by a pitch with one out in the inning and stole second base.
- After LaChance reached on an infield single to put runners on first and second, DeRosa drilled a single to right center to score Ostberg and tie the game, 2-2.
FIFTH INNING
- After giving up two runs in the top half of the inning, the Bobcats batted around and scored seven times to take a 9-4 lead.
- Bender and Andre Marrero (West Springfield, Massachusetts) reached on back-to-back errors to put two runners on base.
- After a strikeout, Ostberg torched a double to left center to score both runners and tie the game.
- LaChance and DeRosa drew back-to-back walks to load the bases and after a pitching change, Kasperzyk walked to drive in Ostberg.
- Lutz ripped the fourth pitch of his at bat to the right centerfield fence for a bases clearing triple and take an 8-4 lead over the Red Foxes.
- After another pitching change, Vulgamore reached on an error to score Lutz for the seventh and final run of the inning.
SEVENTH INNING
- Marist tied the game once again with five runs between the sixth and seventh innings.
- LaChance led off the inning with a hit by pitch and moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt from DeRosa.
- Kasperzyk reached on a fielder's choice that eliminated LaChance from the base paths.
- Lutz drew a walk and Vulgamore was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
- Bender pulled a single through the left side to score both Lutz and Kasperzyk to take the lead for good and the Bobcats did not look back.
NOTES
- Lutz ended the season with three hits in the doubleheader as he went 2 for 3 with a run in game one before ripping a three-RBI triple with a walk and two runs scored in the second game.
- He finished the season with a .309 batting average to lead all Quinnipiac hitters for the second time in his career.
- He also finished second on the team with 25 hits and had the lone triple, the first of his career.
- Bender had key hits in each game as he had a two-RBI double in game one and the game-winning two-RBI single in game two.
- He finished the season with the most doubles on the team with seven, tied with Lutz for the second-most hits on the team with 25 and was third with 19 RBIs.
- Kasperzyk finished the season with hits in both ends of the doubleheader and four hits in the final four games.
- He was 1 for 2 with a walk and a run in game one and went 1 for 3 with a walk, two RBIs and two runs in game two.
- Saturday marked his first game with two RBIs and third game with two runs scored.
- Vulgamore had singles in both ends of the doubleheader, highlighting game one with a single, run and two RBIs
- He was fourth on the team with 24 hits and second with 20 RBIs while his 15 runs scored were also tied for second.
- Ostberg had an impressive game two with his two-RBI double and also scored two runs in the game.
- He finished with 23 hits on the season, 11 RBIs and 14 runs scored.
- LaChance had three walks in the doubleheader and was great in game two where he went 1 for 2 with two of his walks and two runs scored.
- DeRosa played in just his fifth game and made his third start.
- He recorded his first career hit and RBI with an RBI single, and also scored a run.
- He went 1 for 1 with two walks to reach base three times.
- Tate Copeland (Middletown, Rhode Island) tied his career-high with six strikeouts Saturday as he made his fourth start of the season.
- He ended his rookie season with 20 strikeouts in 15 innings.
- Kevin Seitter (Ridgewood, New Jersey) relieved Copeland in game two and also displayed swing-and-miss stuff with seven strikeouts in just four innings of relief to earn the win.
- His seven strikeouts are his second-most in an outing, and he had 32 strikeouts in just 20.2 innings in 2021.
- Quinnipiac has concluded its 2021 season.
