McGraw Earns Second Win in the Circle, Bobcats Split with Iona

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac softball team split a mid-week doubleheader with the Iona Gaels on Wednesday, April 14. After dropping the first game, 6-0, the Bobcats stormed back to win the second game, 9-1. The Bobcats had an all-around solid team win in the second game with a season-high nine runs scored and 14 hits. First-year Tori McGraw pitched four scoreless innings, fanned two Gaels and earned her second win in the circle this season.
Highlights Game 2 (W, 9-1):
First Inning - The Bobcats jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first innings after senior Kayla Jensen got the team started with a double to left field. Sophomore Katherine Rodriguez hit a double of her own and send Jensen home. With first-year Karolyn Walker and Rodriguez on base, first-year Kayla Thomas singled to right field, allowing Rodriguez to score. Walker later scored off a single by senior Brighid Douglas.
Third Inning - Quinnipiac exploded into a 7-0 lead in the third inning. Junior Hannah Davis and Thomas both singled to put the Bobcats in great scoring opportunity. Davis scored off a single from junior Bridget Nasir. Sophomore Cy Gonzalez hit a 2-RBI single allowing Douglas, who had been walked, and Thomas to score. Walker hit a single down the left field line to send Gonzalez home and give the Bobcats a 7-0 lead.
Fourth Inning - The Bobcats scored two more runs in the fourth inning to a take a 9-0 lead. Sophomore Sydney Tedim scored off a double from Douglas. Douglas later scored off a single from Gonzalez.
The Gaels scored one run in the fifth inning, but the Bobcats held on to the eight-run lead and the game ended after the top of the fifth inning.

The Gaels shutout the Bobcats in the opening game of the day, 6-0. Iona scored runs in the third and fifth innings. Kara Zazzaro pitched all seven innings with eight strikeouts, no runs and four hits.

Quinnipiac will travel to Saint Peter's on April 17-18 for a four-game series with the Peacocks.
