Quinnipiac Earns 2OT Victory in MAAC Opener

Chenery, Pinkney, Lewis All Set Career-High Marks in Win
HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac men's basketball earned a thrilling double-overtime win in its MAAC opener, battling past Manhattan by the final score of 84-79 on Friday, Jan. 8 at the People's United Center in Hamden.
First-year wing Tymu Chenery led the way offensively, scoring 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting.
Sophomore big man Seth Pinkney stuffed the stat sheet with 16 points, a team-best nine rebounds and four blocks. Pinkney shot 7-of-8 from the floor in 42 minutes.
Sophomore Brendan McGuire added 13 points, six rebounds and six assists, and senior Jacob Rigoni scored 13 points to go along with five rebounds.
The Bobcats shot 25-of-60 (45.0 percent) from the floor and knocked down 25-of-33 free throw attempts in the win.

- Quinnipiac jumped out to a quick 12-0 lead just 4:26 into play, capped off by a Tymu Chenery three-pointer to put the Bobcats up by a dozen.
- The Bobcats led for 29:19 in total. Quinnipiac's largest lead was 14 points, which came with 11:06 left in the first half.
- Tymu Chenery's 17 points are a career-high mark for the first-year wing. Chenery leads the Bobcats in scoring through five games, recording 12.6 points a contest so far during his first year in Hamden.
- Seth Pinkney's 16 points and nine rebounds are also both career-best marks. Pinkney is 18-for-21 from the floor (85.7 percent) so far this year, and 48-of-63 (76.2 percent) for his collegiate career. The sophomore center also recorded 4+ blocks for the third straight contest. He has 13 blocks in the last three games.
- Savion Lewis added eight points, a career-best eight assists and four rebounds in 34:20. Lewis earned a team-best +13 plus-minus rating.
- Brendan McGuire chipped in with 13 points. He also added six rebounds and six assists – both of which are season-high marks.
- Jacob Rigoni played 42 total minutes – the most of any Bobcat. Rigoni had 13 points – and he now needs just 62 more points to reach 1,000 for his career. The senior hit a three-pointer with 1:11 in double overtime, putting the Bobcats up by four points.
- J.J. Riggins recorded his first two collegiate points, and also grabbed a rebound in the win.
- The Bobcats assisted on 19 of 27 made baskets and forced 16 Manhattan turnovers in total.
- Quinnipiac outscored the Jaspers 42-30 in the paint.
- QU is now 7-9 in the D1 era vs. Manhattan. The Bobcats are 5-3 at home against Manhattan since joining the MAAC.
- Head Coach Baker Dunleavy earns his 46th victory during his time in Hamden. Quinnipiac 4-0 in its first league game of the year under Dunleavy.
