ALBANY, N.Y. – ECAC Hockey has announced the league slate of games, featuring an 18-game slated for the Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team against its league peers Colgate, Clarkson and St. Lawrence for the 2020-21 season.
"We are excited to announce our men's and women's league schedules for 2021," said Commissioner Stephen Hagwell. "The compilation of the league schedules are the result of the collaboration of our administrators and coaches, who have worked tirelessly to create, to the extent possible, a safe and healthy environment in which our student-athletes have an opportunity to compete. We look forward with great anticipation to see how things play out during the season."
The Bobcats are slated to kick off the 2020-21 ECAC Hockey season on New Year's Eve with a 4 p.m. tilt at St. Lawrence against the Saints at 4 p.m. at the newly renovated Appleton Arena before returning home to host the Saints on Sunday, Jan. 3 at 1 p.m. at Frank Perrotti Jr. Arena.
The following weekend, the Bobcats will host the Clarkson Golden Knights in a three-game series at Frank Perrotti Jr. Arena from Friday, Jan. 8 through Sunday, Jan. 10 with game times set for 7 p.m. in the first two games of the series and 4 p.m. in the season finale.
Quinnipiac will then play a home-and-home weekend series with the Colgate Raiders as the Bobcats travel to Hamilton, N.Y. to face the Raiders at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15 at Class of 1965 Arena followed by a 4 p.m. game back in Hamden on Sunday, Jan. 17.
The grueling start to the season continues the following weekend as the Bobcats travel to Clarkson to finish out the season series with the Golden Knights at Cheel Arena in Potsdam, N.Y., with a 5 p.m. puck drop on Friday, Jan. 22 following by 4 p.m. games on Saturday and Sunday.
After a weekend off to close the month of January, the Bobcats return to action with a pair of 7 p.m. games against the Saints on February 5-6 at Frank Perrotti Jr. Arena before traveling to Colgate to face the Raiders in a weekend series on Feb. 12-13.
The Bobcats have another weekend off before traveling back to Canton, N.Y., to face the Saints in a weekend series on Feb. 26-27 before closing out the season at home against the Colgate Raiders on March 5-6.
The four participating programs will compete in single-elimination championships at the conclusion of the regular season. All post-season games will be held on campus sites. The championship weekends will be held March 5-7 for the women, and March 19-21 for the men. The winners of the respective championships qualify to receive an automatic bid to the NCAA championship. It will mark the first time since the 2014 season that the ECAC Hockey men's championship will not be conducted at the 1980 Rink in Lake Placid, N.Y.
In accordance and compliance with regulations and guidelines set forth by State and local governments, and the NCAA, ECAC Hockey has adopted extensive protocols and standards that must be met by each program in order to compete safely. Protocols on testing, masking, travel, and several other potential areas of concern have been addressed. A working group consisting of physicians, trainers, league administrators, equipment managers, communications staff, and on-ice officials was formed to create the document over the course of several months.
At this time, fans will not be permitted in arenas during ECAC Hockey contests. For the third consecutive season, however, all games will be available on ESPN+ for $5.99 per-month or for international viewers on Stretch Internet. Links for contests can always be found on the ECAC Hockey website, or any ECAC Hockey social media platform.
