Metsa, Petruzzelli Recognized as ECAC Hockey Stars of the Week

Metsa (1st Star) Receives Weekly Honor for First Time, Petruzzelli Named Second Star
ALBANY, N.Y. – Quinnipiac men's ice hockey junior Zach Metsa (Delafield, Wisconsin) was named the ECAC Hockey First Star of the Week and senior Keith Petruzzelli was named Second Star of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday, Dec. 21.
Both Bobcats joined Third Star of the Week Taylor House from the women's ice hockey team to complete the sweep of the ECAC Hockey Stars of the Week.
Metsa's weekly honor from the league office is the first of his career while Petruzzelli was recognized with a weekly award for the fourth time in his career after earning goaltender of the week honors three times last season.
Metsa had a stellar start to the season as he recorded a point in all four games to extend his point streak to five games dating back to the Bobcats 5-0 win over Yale in the season finale of the 2019-20 season.
He recorded a career-high four points on a goal and three assists in the season-opening 9-2 win over the Sacred Heart Pioneers before adding assists in each of the next three games. Metsa is also tied for second on the team with seven blocked shots through the first four games of the season.
Metsa is tied for first among ECAC Hockey skaters with six assists and is second with seven points and seven blocked shots.
Petruzzelli was stellar between the pipes through the first four games of the season as he posted a 2.06 GAA and .927 save percentage. He made 101 saves on the 109 shots he faced, including an impressive 67 saves in the Bobcats pair of matchups with then-No. 12/13 Bowling Green over the weekend.
He made 35 saves on Friday night against the Falcons and 32 saves Saturday night, marking the second time in his career he has made 30-plus saves in back-to-back games and his first since the first two games of his Quinnipiac career.
The No. 16 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team returns to action with a home-and-home series beginning Tuesday night in Hamden against the Holy Cross Crusaders before the Bobcats travel to Worcester Wednesday for the first road game of the 2020-21 season. Tuesday's game will broadcast on ESPN+ and Wednesday's game can be seen on FloHockey.
