Senior Earns National Recognition for On and Off Court Achievements
OVERLAND PARK, KS – Senior guard Taylor Herd has been selected as a candidate for the 2019-20 Senior CLASS Award, the organization announced on Friday.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
The reigning MAAC Sixth Player of the Year, Herd is currently averaging nine points and just under four rebounds per game this season and has hit at least one three-pointer in all but two of the games that she has played in.
The Quakertown, Pennsylvania native was a Second Team All-MAAC team member during this preseason and was also the first recipient of Hartford Healthcare's Connecticut Courage award.
The men's and women's candidates will be narrowed to two fields of 10 finalists in February, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four C's of community, classroom, character and competition.
