Bobcats Score Season-High Five Goals in MAAC Win
Quinnipiac scored five times in a contest for just the second time over the last two seasons, and for the first time since Oct. 31, 2018 vs. Monmouth. Tomas Svecula, Romain Daniellou, Conor McCoy, Simon Hillinger and Eamon Whelan all found the back of the net in the victory, while Brage Aasen recorded two assists.
There were eight total goals during the contests – the most goals during a soccer contest at the QU Soccer & Lacrosse Stadium since the facility opened in September of 2017.

First Half
- (40' – Marist 1, Quinnipiac 0): Huib Achterkamp made it 1-0 Red Foxes, scoring on a penaly kick in the 40th minute to give the Red Foxes the lead. Quinnipiac committed a foul inside the box – leading to the penalty kick chance.
- (43' – Quinnipiac 1, Marist 1): Tomas Svecula tied the game 1-1 just over three minutes later. Marist committed a handball inside the box, then the freshman buried his fourth goal of 2019 to even the contest.
- (44' – Quinnipiac 2, Marist 1): The Bobcats scored again 1:05 later to take the lead. Brage Aasen played a corner kick into the box, then Romain Daniellou located the ball through traffic and one-timed it into the back of the net.
- (61' – Quinnipiac 2, Marist 2): Allen Gavilanes played a free kick into the box toward Christian Curti, who headed the ball into the back of the net for Marist's second goal of the day to even the score.
- (68' – Marist 3, Quinnipiac 2): Samad Bounthong scored his second goal of the season in the 68th minute to make it 3-2 Red Foxes. The senior found the lower right portion of the net out in traffic.
- (72' – Quinnipiac 3, Marist 3): The Bobcats evened the game again less than five minutes later. Aasen played a corner kick into the box, and Conor McCoy headed it in for his first goal of the season.
- (76' – Quinnipiac 4, Marist 3): Simon Hillinger then gave Quinnipiac the advantage wit less than 15 minutes to go in regulation, blasting a penalty kick into the lower right corner of the net
- (85' – Quinnipiac 5, Marist 3): Eamon Whelan gave Quinnipiac a two-goal cushion with 5:14 left in regulation. Oriac Vila Rotxes gathered the ball in the defensive third, played it forward to Whelan – then the senior made one move past the Marist keeper and played it in for his fourth goal of the year.
- Total shots were 20-9 in favor of the Bobcats, while Quinnipiac attempted eight corner kicks to Marist's five.
- The Bobcats are now 7-0-2 all-time vs. Marist, going 4-0-1 in the last five matchups.
- Svecula now has four goals in his first season with Quinnipiac – all coming in the last five contests. The freshman scored in three straight contests vs. Central Connecticut, New Hampshire and Saint Peter's.
- Daniellou's goal is his third of the season. The senior scored once in 2018 for the Bobcats, giving him four career goals.
- McCoy's score is his fourth career goal. He scored three times as a freshman in 2016.
- Hillinger now has four career goals, scoring twice as a freshman in 2017 and twice so far in 2019.
- With 30 career scores, Whelan is just one of less than 40 active NCAA Division I players with 25+ career goals. Whelan currently ranks No. 6 in program history for career goals, needing just two more to move into sole possession of the No. 3 spot.
- The Bobcats continue MAAC action this weekend, traveling to Niagara on Oct. 12 for a 7:00 p.m. league game.
