Women's Soccer to Face Iona on Saturday

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's soccer team is set to take on the Iona Gaels on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 12 p.m., in New Rochelle, N.Y. The Bobcats are coming off three-straight MAAC wins against Fairfield, Niagara and Saint Peter's.

GAME NOTES
Last Time Out:
Quinnipiac traveled to Jersey City, N.J., to face the Saint Peter's Peacocks. The Bobcats came away with a 1-0 win after a goal from sophomore Emily Loney. Freshman Meaghan Phillips tallied her fifth shutout of the season, making two saves in the 1-0 win. In every game that the Bobcats have scored first, the team went on to win the game.
Scouting Iona:
The Gaels currently hold a 1-4-1 MAAC record and sit in 10th in the conference standings. Iona is coming off a 5-0 loss to Monmouth.
Last Year against the Gaels:
Quinnipiac holds an all-time record of 5-2-1 against Iona. In 2018, the Bobcats defeated the Gaels, 2-1, in Hamden.
Underclassmen on the Rise:
Freshman Olivia Scott now leads the team with nine points on three goals and three assists. She has scored twice in the last two out of three games. Sophomore Selena Salas has recorded eight points on two goals and four assists. Freshman Markela Bejleri has tallied two goals and two assists for six points.
Phillips in the Net:
Freshman Meaghan Phillips now has five shutouts on the season. She is currently tied with Gwen Miller '93 in the 10th spot for the program's single-season shutout record. Kate Mockaitis '94 and Chloe Beizer '07 hold the program's record with seven shutouts in one season. Phillips has totaled a 0.83 goals against average and 0.818 save percentage, which ranks second and fifth in the conference, respectively.
Loney Lighting it Up:
Sophomore Emily Loney has scored three goals in three straight games for Quinnipiac. She tallied the game-winning goal against Fairfield and Saint Peter's to lift the Bobcats over the Stags and Peacocks in each.
A Look at the MAAC Standings:
The Monmouth Hawks sit at the top of the conference standings with a 7-0 record and is the only unbeaten team in the MAAC. Fairfield holds the second spot with a 5-1 record, and Fairfield sits in third with a 4-1-1 record. Quinnipiac moved into the fourth spot with a 4-3 record, and Marist holds the fifth spot with a 3-3-1 record. Niagara is in the middle of the pack with a 2-4-1 record, followed by Siena, Manhattan, Canisius, Iona and Saint Peter's.
