Shortridge Makes 30 Saves for Third Time this Season, Four Freshmen Record Points
HAMDEN, Conn. – Goaltender Andrew Shortridge (Anchorage, Alaska) made 30 saves between the pipes for the No. 3/5 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team Saturday night as the Bobcats skated to a 2-2 tie in overtime with No. 20 Cornell to earn a point in ECAC Hockey play.
Shortridge was particularly solid over the final period and overtime, making 14 of his 30 saves. He made several key saves late in the third period, and ended the game with a big save in the final seconds of overtime
Cornell goaltender Austin McGrath did his part to keep the Bobcats off the board, making 15 saves in the same span and finishing with 35 saves on the night.
Freshmen Ethan de Jong (North Vancouver, British Columbia) and Peter DiLiberatore (Bedford, Nova Scotia) picked up goals for the Bobcats while four of the five points recorded tonight by Quinnipiac skaters were from freshmen.

SCORING SUMMARY
- (8:33, 1st period) – Quinnipiac 1, Cornell 0: de Jong netted the first goal of the game for the Bobcats. After Wyatt Bongiovanni (Birmingham, Michigan) won a battle for the puck in the right corner before getting open to fire a shot on net. The initial shot was saved by Cornell's McGrath before de Jong banged home the rebound.
- (14:19, 1st period) – Quinnipiac 2, Cornell 0: The Bobcats doubled their lead with a power-play goal less than six minutes later as DiLiberatore sniped home his second goal of the season past McGrath's glove side.
- (15:57, 1st period) – Quinnipiac 2, Cornell 1: Cornell got a goal back with 4:03 to go in the opening stanza as Cam Donaldson managed to sneak the puck just past Shortridge. Morgan Barron's initial shot was blocked and Tristan Mullin had his shot saved before Donaldson snuck the power-play goal under Shortridge's right pad.
- (7:02, 2nd period) – Quinnipiac 2, Cornell 2: Barron tied the game for the Big Red nearly midway through the second period on a breakaway up the right side and fired the puck top shelf.

NOTES
- The Bobcats continued their streak of 14 consecutive ECAC Hockey series with at least one point, a streak that begin with the Yale/Brown weekend on Nov. 17-18, 2017
- de Jong scored for the second time in the past three games to record his fifth of the season, becoming the second Quinnipiac freshman with at least five goals
- de Jong ranks second among ECAC Hockey freshmen with 15 points and tied for third with five goals
- DiLiberatore also scored for the second time in the past three games, also standing has the first two goals of his career
- DiLiberatore now has nine points on the season, tied for the most among ECAC Hockey freshmen defensemen
- Bongiovanni tallied points in back-to-back games this weekend after a goal last night to give him 11 points on the season, tied for fifth among ECAC Hockey freshmen
- Martin recorded his ninth assist of the season and 16th point to keep him in fourth on the team
- Fällström recorded a point for a second straight night with an assist on Saturday, his eighth assist of the season to give him 12 points on the year, tied for third among ECAC Hockey freshmen
- Shortridge recorded 30 saves Saturday night in the tie for his third 30-plus save performance of the season, including an impressive 14 saves in the third period and overtime as Cornell mounted the pressure
- Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) won a season-high 22 faceoffs Saturday night to pace the Bobcats on their way to a 50-31 advantage
- Tufto also added an assist to extend his point streak to four games while his 17 assists and 28 points remain tops in ECAC Hockey and fourth in the nation
- Former Quinnipiac associate head coach and current Cornell associate head coach Ben Syer assumed the role of head coach for Big Red Saturday as Cornell head coach Mike Schafer missed the game with an illness
- The Bobcats continue their four-game homestand next weekend with another ECAC Hockey weekend as Dartmouth comes to Hamden Friday night before Quinnipiac hosts Harvard on Saturday
- Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. from Frank Perrotti Jr. Arena
