
Dryzgula, Scullin Highlight QU Outdoor Track and Field at Stony Brook's Wolfie Invitational

STONY BROOK, N.Y.-- Junior Emily Dryzgula earned a first-place finish in the javelin, and sophomore Meaghan Scullin moved into third place in Quinnipiac history in the long jump to highlight the performance of the Quinnipiac women's track and field team at the Stony Brook Invitational on Saturday.
At the Virginia Challenge, senior Jessica Lee finished in fourth place out of 38 competitors in the 100-meter hurdles with a 13.44 in a field that included runners from Virginia, Penn State, Tennessee, Maryland and North Carolina, among others. Junior Marlo Wehrer and senior Christina Barbaro were 21st and 22nd, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles at the Virginia Challenge.
At the Stony Brook Invitational, Dryzgula's throw of 36.73 was three meters beyond anyone else in the field, as Nina D'Amato of St. John's was second with a 33.58. Dryzgula moved into second place all-time in the javelin at the Rider Invitational last week with a 38.31.
Scullin set a personal best of 5.58 meters in the long jump to move into third place on the all-time list at Quinnipiac, just shy of the record of 5.82 meters held by current senior Leah Pfrommer. Freshman Britney Del Mundo finished in second place at the Stony Brook Invitational in the triple jump with 11.06 meters.
In the sprint events, freshman Abby Frank won her heat with a 12.64 in the 100 meters. Sophomore Ahmetra Davies trimmed four seconds off her personal best in the 800 with a time of 2:16.49 to finish in third place in the field.
Sophomore Meghan Curtin moved into 10th place in Quinnipiac history in the 1500 meters by knocking almost 10 seconds off her personal best. She finished the Stony Brook Invitational with a 4:42.36, well ahead of the 4:51.99 she ran last week at the Auburn Track Classic, her previous best. Junior Maria Ricalton moved into the top 10 in the 3000-meter steeplechase with an 11:23.39, placing her eighth. Sophomore Jillian DiGiacinto set a personal best in the 400-meter hurdles with a 1:05.41.
Senior Mackenzie Merkel finished in second place in the discus with a throw of 38.37 meters, one week after setting a new personal best with a 40.99 at the Rider Invitational. Junior Michaela Mendygral shattered her personal best in the hammer throw with a toss of 35.29 meters to move into second on Quinnipiac's list.
The Bobcat relay teams placed high in the field as well, with the 4x100 team of Del Mundo, Scullin, Frank and Pfrommer coming in fourth with a 49.26. The 4x400 team of DiGiacinto, Melissa Solomon, Davies and Curtin was third with a 3:59.83.
Quinnipiac will be back in action on Sunday, April 29 when it participates in the Yale Springtime Invitational.
