Stifling Defense Leads QU Women's Basketball to MAAC Quarterfinal Win over Monmouth

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Quinnipiac women's basketball team held Monmouth to only 14 first-half points to break the game open early and take an 83-44 win over Hawks on Friday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the MAAC Women's Basketball Tournament. The Bobcats, who were led by 19 points from senior guard Carly Fabbri and a double-double from junior forward Paula Strautmane (Riga, Latvia) with 10 points and 11 rebounds, will move on to Sunday's semifinals, when they will take on the winner of tomorrow's Rider-Fairfield quarterfinal game at 11 a.m.

- Quinnipiac outscored Monmouth 16-14 in the third quarter to take a 57-28 lead into the fourth quarter.
