QU Men's Lacrosse Uses Dominant Defensive Effort to Take 11-3 Win Over Wagner

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac men's lacrosse team defense did not allow an even strength goal in the entire game, as the Bobcats were able to coast to an 11-3 win over Wagner on Saturday afternoon at Quinnipiac Lacrosse Stadium. Junior attach Foster Cuomo had four goals to lead the offense, while senior face-off specialist Will Vitelli was 15-16 at the X to nearly have the second perfect game in his career.

GAME NOTES
- The close defense of Riley Palmer (pictured), Mike Ruane, and Bryce Nalls came into the game after allowing one goal in the second half in a 9-6 loss at Fairfield on Tuesday and kept the momentum going, allowing only a man-up goal in the first three quarters as the Bobcats built a 10-1 lead.
- Palmer led the defensive unit with four ground balls, while Ruane had two caused turnovers.
- Sophomore goalie Joe Zukauskas had eight saves in net, as Quinnipiac finished with a 49-20 edge in shots.
- Neither team could score in the first 12 minutes, before the Bobcats broke the ice with three goals int eh final 2:28 of the first quarter.
- Freshman attack Jake Tomsik broke the scoreless deadlock with 2:28 left in the first, and 28 seconds later, junior Matt Frost stretched the lead to 2-0.
- Senior midfielder Brian Feldman made the score 3-0 with 16 seconds left in the first quarter, the 101st goal of his career after he joined the 100-goal club in Tuesday's game at Fairfield.
- Junior attack Foster Cuomo scored four of the next five Quinnipiac goals, around the second from Feldman, to stretch the lead to 8-1.
- Senior long-stick midfielder Adam Bellamy assisted on the final Cuomo goal in transition with 9:38 left in the third, and then scored an unassisted goal on his own on another rush upfield to make the score 9-1.
- Wagner scored two goals on extra-man opportunities in the fourth around the second goal from Frost to make the final score 11-3.
- Senior face-off specialist Vitelli was 14-14 on face-offs entering the fourth quarter, but finally lost the opening one of the fourth quarter before finishing 15-16.
- As a sophomore, Vitelli was 19-19 on faceoffs in an overtime win over Marist.
