Big Second Half Run Carries Niagara Past QU Men's Basketball

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Niagara men's basketball team used a 25-5 run in the second half to turn a 10-point deficit into a 10-point lead and held on the rest of the way to take an 81-73 win over Quinnipiac on Thursday evening at the TD Bank Sports Center. Khalil Dukes led all scorers for Niagara with 23 points, while Cameron Young led the Bobcats with 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

- Quinnipiac led by two points at the half and took its largest lead at 51-41 on a three-pointer from Isaiah Washington (Williamsport, Pa.) with 15:20 left.
- Niagara answered with a 14-0 run, with Kahlil Dukes giving the Purple Eagles a lead they would not relinquish with a three-pointer, making the score 53-51 at the 11:09 mark, which was followed by a Matt Scott lay-up.
- The Bobcats got back within 57-56 on a three-point play from senior guard Cameron Young (Los Angeles, Calif.) with 9:09 to go, but the Purple Eagles used a 9-0 run, capped off by a Scott layup, to take its largest lead at 66-56 with 6:44 left.
- Quinnipiac closed to within 68-63 on a fast break lay-up from junior forward Abdulai Bundu (Upper Marlboro, Md.), and then to within four at 73-69 with 3:04 left on a driving lay-up from freshman guard Rich Kelly (Shelton, Conn.).
- Niagara salted the game away with the next five points, as James Towns hit an 18-foot pull-up jumper and then fed Marvin Prochet for a three-pointer to make the score 78-69 with 1:46 to go.
- Young finished off a double-double with an offensive rebound in the final seconds to end with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while also adding a career-high seven assists.
- Senior forward Chaise Daniels (Meriden, Conn.) had 16 points off the bench, and now has 918 in his career, 82 away from becoming the 39th player in school history to score 1,000 points.
- Washington had 12 points and tied his season high with seven rebounds.
- Freshman forward Jacob Rigoni (Adelaide, Australia) made his first start of the season and had eight points and six rebounds.
