Lee Makes History With a Time of 8.42 Seconds in the Finals of the 60m Hurdles
BOSTON, Massachusetts – Jessica Lee's unbelievable 2016-17 season finished with yet another triumph as the junior standout won the 60m hurdles, becoming the first ECAC Indoor Champion in Quinnipiac women's indoor track and field history. Quinnipiac concludes the 2016-17 indoor season tying for 22nd place overall with 14 total team points at the ECAC Championships held at Boston University.
Lee's 2016-17 season will go down as one of the best individual single-seasons in program history, if not the greatest of all-time. She concluded her campaign with another stellar performance, clocking in at 8.42 seconds in the finals of the 60m hurdles to claim her seventh title of the season while going a perfect three-for-three in the championship season (MAAC, New England and ECAC). Lee topped a field of nine finalists with a time that bested the runner-up by 0.13 seconds, easily beating the field in an event where she placed 10th in the 2016 ECAC Championships.
The junior took a monumental leap this season, landing first place finishes in the 60m hurdles at seven of the eight meets in which she competed in her signature event. Lee swept the championship season, claiming her second straight 60m hurdles titles in the MAAC and New England Championships prior to making history with her first place result today. Named the MAAC's Most Outstanding Track Performer, Lee's season and career high time of 8.35 seconds (achieved at the Armory Track Invite on Feb. 4, 2017) still stands within the Top 100 fastest of the season.
Not to be forgotten was the performances put forth by Bobcats in two other finals as Medinah Nabadduka (Windsor, Connecticut) scored a seventh place finish in the finals of the 1000m with a time of 2:53.59. Nabadduka's final career appearance stands as a great one as she placed at the ECAC Championships for the first time in her career.
One day following a thrilling time that was good enough to earn the last spot in the finals, the Bobcats' 4x800m relay team of Alyson Caron (Andover, New Jersey), Darby Ginley (Warwick, New York), Meghan Curtin (Cohocton, New York) and Cori Reid (Old Saybrook, Connecticut) also placed seventh out of eight teams with a time of 9:14.48.
Quinnipiac concludes the 2016-17 indoor season and will take nearly a month off and resume competition in April with the start of the 2017 outdoor season.
