Four Bobcats Total Advance to the Finals in Three Different Events, Jessica Lee's Appearance in the 60m Hurdles Waits Until Saturday
BOSTON, Massachusetts – In an abbreviated opening day of competition, the Quinnipiac women's indoor track and field team saw four competitors advance to the finals of three different events in day one of the New England Championships from the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
Making the most noise in the opening day was Francine Jacque (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) who made it into the finals of the 200m dash with a personal-best time of 25.19 seconds, finishing fourth-fastest in the preliminary round of 32 sprinters. The mark bests her previous record high of 25.33 seconds from the 2016 outdoor track and field season.
The breakthrough season of Christina Barbaro (Elk Township, New Jersey) continued as she advanced to the finals of the 500m with a personal-best time of 1:16.97. Besting her previous career high of 1:17.22, Barbaro still owns the third-fastest 500m time in program history while her time on Friday night was the fourth-fastest among the preliminary field of 20.
A pair of Bobcats are moving forward in the 800m as Medinah Nabadduka (Windsor, Connecticut) and Cori Reid (Old Saybrook, Connecticut) each earned a spot in the final with a second and eighth place finish, respectively, in the preliminary round. Nabadduka and Reid advance to the finals of the 800m for the first time in their careers at the New England Championships.
Among the other competitors on the night included Carly Timpson (Narragansett, Rhode Island) who narrowly missed scoring for the Bobcats in the weight throw as she tossed 15.66m to finish ninth out of 24 throwers (just one spot out of earning points). Putting together solid performances despite not advancing to the finals was Katey Veron in the 5000m (13th, 18:10.51), Alyson Caron in the 800m (12th, 2:17.85) and the tandem of Melissa Solomon (11th, 58.40) and Marlo Wehrer (14th, 58.91) in the 400m.
Quinnipiac hits the track for day two of the New England Championships tomorrow from the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
