ANNAPOLIS, Maryland – Quinnipiac women's golf freshman Alexandra Sazhin (New Fairfield, Connecticut) made an immediate impact in the Bobcats' line-up at the 2016 Navy Fall Invitational in Annapolis, Maryland. The first-year Bobcat carded a first-round 75 (+3) for a tie of seventh place, while the Bobcats completed the first day in seventh place after the 36-hole tournament's first 18 holes.
Harvard combined to shoot a 306 for the lead after first round, followed by Towns, Pennsylvania and Navy tied for second at 310. Lehigh (312) and Sacred Heart (314) slid in in-front of Quinnipiac (320), followed by Monmouth and Wagner (321) tied for eighth and Central Connecticut State (322) in the top 10. Bucknell (325), Saint Francis (Pa.) (326), The Citadel (330), Delaware State (347), Holy Cross (348) and La Salle (396) completed the field.
Sazhin came to Quinnipiac from in-state Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC) powerhouse Greenwich High School where she helped her high school squad to three state championships over the last four years. On Saturday, Sazhin posted the 16th round in program history at 75 or lower.
Senior Nicole Scola (Westerly, Rhode Island) had a solid showing for the Bobcats with an 80 while 2016 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player and Rookie of the Year Luciana Tobia-Palza (La Paz, Bolivia) shot an 81. Caitlan Blydenburgh (Castleton, New York) carded an 84 while Julia Kemmling (Berlin, Connecticut) finished with an 85.
The Bobcats will play the final 18 holes of the 2016 Navy Fall Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 11 at the United States Naval Academy Golf Course in Annapolis, Maryland.
