
QU Baseball's Matthew Batten Named ABCA/Rawlings Northeast All-Region First Team

HAMDEN, Connecticut – Quinnipiac baseball junior shortstop Matthew Batten (Shelton, Connecticut) has been named to the American Baseball Coaches' Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Division I Northeast All-Region First Team, as announced by the organization on Thursday, June 16, 2016.
With his first team selection, Batten and the other first team selections are eligible to be considered for the ABCA/Rawlings All-America Team, which will be released on Saturday, June 18.
Batten's latest accolade is among the numerous he has received this offseason, including an All-MAAC Second Team Selection and NEIBA All-New England First Team selection. This was his first selection to an ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team.
Batten is one of five players from the MAAC Named to the Northeast All-Region First Team, joined by Manhattan's Fabian Pena and Christian Santisteban, Fairfield's Jake Salpietro and Marist's Frankie Gregoire.
This season, Batten had one of his best in a Quinnipiac uniform as he batted .344 to lead the team and finished the season with a nine-game hitting streak, his third hitting streak of at least nine games this season. Batten recorded a career-high 73 hits, 43 runs scored, 10 doubles, four home runs, 16 extra base hits, a .402 on base percentage, a .467 slugging percentage and 20 stolen bases. Batten led the team with 19 multiple-hit games and 11 three-hit games.
He led the team in hits, runs, triples, total bases and stolen bases while he also finished in the top three in home runs, slugging percentage, on base percentage and sacrifice flies. Among MAAC leaders, Batten finished the season with the most hits, fifth in batting average, fourth in runs scored, fourth in total bases, tied for second in stolen bases, first in assists and third in fielding double plays.
Batten is currently playing summer collegiate baseball with the Morehead City Marlins in the Coastal Plain League where he is batting .269 with two doubles, four runs scored, five RBIs and two stolen bases through seven games.
