DETROIT - Sophomore attack Brian Feldman (Canandaigua, N.Y. - pictured) set a new career high with eight points on five goals and three assists to lead the Quinnipiac men's lacrosse team to a 14-4 road win over Detroit in a snowy MAAC contest on Sunday morning at Titan Field.
With the win, the Bobcats stay alone in first in the MAAC at 3-0 in league play, while improving to 6-3 overall on the year. Detroit falls to 1-8 overall and 1-2 in the MAAC with the loss.
Feldman matched his career high in goals with five, which he set twice last season, including once against Detroit in the MAAC semifinals. His three assists set a new career high, as did his eight points, eclipsing his old high of five which he accomplished three times last year.
Senior attack Ryan Keenan (Oshawa, Ontario) and junior attack Drew D'Antonio (Norwalk, Conn.) added two goals apiece for the Bobcats, while eight players scored in all, including sophomore midfielder Jason Brigagliano (Bay Shore, N.Y.), who capped off the day with his first career goal with just over a minute to play.
Five different players scored to stake Quinnipiac to a 5-1 lead early in the second quarter, before Feldman became the first Bobcat with two goals to make the score 6-1 with 9:08 left in the second. Keenan started things off with a goal on the first offensive possession for the Bobcats, and was followed by goals from sophomore midfielder Anthony Carchietta (Syosset, N.Y.), Feldman, sophomore midfielder Ryan Corcoran (Stratford, Conn.) and D'Antonio.
After Detroit got one goal back, Feldman finished off his hat trick in the first half with a man-up goal from freshman midfielder Foster Cuomo (Oakville, Ontario) to make the score 7-2 with 3:41 left in the second quarter, which is where it stood going into halftime.
The Titans scored the first goal of the second half, but Feldman found junior midfielder Kevin Diehl (Towson, Md.) for a quick answer, and then Keenan scored a pretty leaping goal in front of the cage off a crossing pass from Carchietta to make it 9-3. Feldman's fourth made it 10-3 at the end of the third, and he added one more in the final stanza to cap off a five-goal day. Senior midfielder Connor Meth (Basking Ridge, N.J.) added a goal from Cuomo, while D'Antonio scored his second of the day before Brigagliano capped things off.
Junior goalkeeper Jack Brust (Baltimore, Md.) had a solid day in goal to get the win with 10 saves, playing 58 minutes before giving way to backup Maximillian Smith for the final minute, who had three saves to help kill off a late Bobcat penalty. The close defense of seniors Chris Kendall (Dublin, Ohio) and Ryan Lawler (Port Washington, N.Y.) and sophomore Riley Palmer (Oshawa, Ontario) also had a big role in holding the Titans to only four goals on the day, along with sophomore long stick midflelder Adam Bellamy, who led the Bobcats with four ground balls.
Quinnipiac is back in action on Saturday when it returns home for a 12 p.m. contest against Canisius as it will try to remain perfect in the MAAC and increase its odds for the top seed and the right to host the conference tournament.
