Bobcats Score Program Record Eight Points Throughout the Competition
BOSTON, Massachusetts – The Quinnipiac women's indoor track and field team wrapped up their record-breaking 2015-16 season with another new program record. In the final day of competition at the ECAC Championships, the Bobcats finished the two days of events with a new program-best eight points as well as nine total competitors in the field that draws the best competitors of teams all across the East Coast.
"We had another great meet today and finished up another tremendous season," said Quinnipiac head coach Carolyn Martin. "It's great to end on a high note and see our highest score ever at ECACs as well as the most total athletes competing in the championships. This weekend was a great experience and I'm looking forward to what's ahead in the outdoor season."
Shameal Samuels (Hartford, Connecticut) wrapped up her indoor career placing fifth overall in her signature 400m event. Racing against a field of runners that was filled entirely of seniors, Samuels clocked in with a season-high time of 54.25 seconds to earn her Top 5 result. With this performance, Samuels becomes the first Bobcat in program history to place in three consecutive ECAC Championships.
Tracy Campbell (Wall Township, New Jersey) made some personal history, earning an eighth place finish in the finals of the one mile run with a time of 4:56.66. Running for the first time at the ECAC Championships in her career, Campbell advanced to the finals in the most talented field she has competed against all season and managed to pick up a point for the Bobcats in the team standings.
Kaleigh Roberts (Higganum, Connecticut) continued her breakout sophomore campaign with an impressive 13th place showing in the 3000m as she tallied a new personal-best time of 9:45.14. The new career-best for the sophomore is an improvement of 8.07 seconds on her previous best in the 3000m (9:53.21) while also standing as the second-fastest in program history.
Quinnipiac's distance medley relay team wrapped up the competition for the Bobcats as the group of Alyson Caron (Andover, New Jersey), Kristen Ulrich (Clark, New Jersey), Cori Reid (Old Saybrook, Connecticut) and Cameron Chaplen (Thomaston, Connecticut) clocked in at 12:03.16 to take 17th out of 23 teams.
The Bobcats now wait a little less than a month for the start of the 2016 outdoor season which begins on April 1-2 at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Virginia.
