NEW ENGLAND MATCHUP IN FLORIDA
The Quinnipiac softball team resumes their spring break trip on Wednesday, Mar. 16 when they take on the UMass Lowell River Hawks. Before competing in the USF Spring Break Tournament, the Bobcats will play UMass at 11 a.m. in Clearwater.
SCOUTING UMASS LOWELL
The River Hawks enter Wednesday's game with a 4-12 overall record. UMass Lowell began the season 1-4 at the EMU Madeira Beach Invitational before going 2-4 at the Wyndham Garden Cougar Classic in Charleston, South Carolina. Most recently, the River Hawks went 1-4 at the USF Michele Smith Spring Break Tournament. UML is batting .255 as a team, but have two athletes with averages over .400. Junior Tori Alcorn leads the team in nearly every offensive category with a .429 (21-for-49) batting average and a .653 slugging percentage. Freshman Sydney Wash heads the pitching staff with a 2.21 earned run average and a 2-3 overall record.
USF UNDER ARMOUR SHOWCASE
Last weekend, the Bobcats were unable to secure a win at the USF Under Armour Showcase and finished 0-5 in the tournament.
ON DECK
Up next, the Bobcats will begin the USF Spring Break Tournament on Friday, Mar. 18. Quinnipiac will play five more games in Clearwater over the weekend starting with a doubleheader on Friday. The Bobcats will take on Lehigh at 2:15 p.m. followed by a matchup with Northwestern at 4:30 p.m.
MAAC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Senior pitcher Sydney Robey was named the MAAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for her stellar performance over the weekend at the Lady Pirates Classic in Hampton, Virginia. Robey made three starts on the mound in Hampton, compiling a 2-0 record and a 0.95 earned run average over 19 innings pitched. The senior allowed just two earned runs and three walks while striking out 16 batters.
ALL AROUND ATHLETE
In addition to being named MAAC Pitcher of the Week, Robey also led the Bobcats at the plate in Virginia. Robey hit .429 (6-for-14) with two RBI's, a walk and two stolen bases. In the first game against Buffalo, the senior was 1-for-3 with a run scored. In two games against Princeton, Robey was 4-for-5 with two RBI's and two runs scored. She added another hit and run scored in the final game of the tournament against Hampton.
THE 300 CLUB
Through 14 games, the Bobcats have two batters hitting over .300. Sophmore Emily Czaja leads the offense at .375 (9-for-24) followed by senior Dani Edmands at .325 (13-for-40).
CASEY IN THE CLUTCH
In the first game against Princeton, the Tigers took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning, knocking Robey out of the game. Sophomore Casey Herzog came in to replace Robey in the circle with no outs and Tigers occupying second and third. The sophomore got the Bobcats out of the jam, recording two strikeouts and forcing a ground ball out. Quinnipiac took the lead in their last at bats to give Herzog her first victory of the season.
DANI CHICAGO
Edmands finished the Total Control Sports Invitational with a .462 batting average (6-for-13) through four games. Edmands registered three multi-hit games while adding three RBI, two runs scored, a walk and a hit by pitch on the weekend.
WEEKEND SLUGFEST
Sophomore Maria Ascher recorded an impressive .700 slugging percentage over the weekend in Chicago. Ascher went 4-for-10 from behind the plate while leading the team with three doubles.
HAVE A DAY, MAGANA
On Saturday of the Total Control Sports Invitational, sophomore Miranda Magana went 3-for-6 with an RBI, run scored and a walk. Against Loyola, Magana was 2-for-3 with the game winning RBI off a single up the middle in the top of the seventh.
WINNER, WINNER
Senior pitcher Sydney Robey picked up her first win of the season against Loyola. Robey pitched the complete game, allowing just two earned runs while striking out three batters over seven innings.

The Quinnipiac University softball team was picked to finish eighth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the conference office on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016.
BOBCAT RETURNEES
Quinnipiac returns 11 players from last year's squad, seven of which are juniors or seniors. In addition the Bobcats will look to a strong core of four sophomores who each played in at least 35 games including Maria Ascher (Little Canada, Minnesota), Miranda Magana (Santa Paula, California), Emily Czaja (Palmer, Massachusetts) and Casey Herzog (Wappingers Falls, New York). Both Ascher and Magana were two of four Bobcats to play in all 50 games.
HAMDEN ADVANTAGE
Last season, the Bobcats registered a 10-8 home record at the QU Softball Field while also going 6-4 in MAAC play in Hamden.
2015 ALL-MAAC ROOKIE TEAM
Third baseman Miranda Magana and starting pitcher Casey Herzog were honored on the All-MAAC Rookie Team for their stellar freshmen campaigns. Magana ranked third on the team with a .279 batting average and second on the squad with 38 hits and 18 RBI, while adding a .320 on base percentage and a .331 slugging percentage. Herzog came up big in the circle, in her last five appearances, she allowed just three earned runs while picking up three saves and a win. The freshman also led the team with four saves while adding three victories on the year.

Seven freshmen join the Bobcats for the 2016 season including Sydney Dennis(Kingwood, Texas), Taylor Troyan (Boca Raton, Florida), Sarah Heimbach (Greenwich, New York), Rebecca Drake (Manchester, New Jersey), Kendall Brundrett (San Diego, California), Autumn Martin (Riverside, California) and Erin Larsen (Orlando, Florida).

Jill Karwoski will guide Quinnipiac in her third season as the Bobcats head coach in the hopes of improving on a 2015 season that saw the Quinnipiac finish the year at 18-33 overall and 8-12 in the MAAC.
