ALBANY, New York – Nationally-ranked No. 4/4 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey sophomore forward Taylar Cianfarano (Oswego, New York) has been named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Feb. 23, 2016.
Cianfarano's player of the week honor is her third of the season and of her career as she was honored previously on Oct. 23 and Nov. 24. Overall, it is the eighth time she has been honored with a weekly award in her collegiate career.
This past weekend, Cianfarano had a game to remember against Union as the Bobcats routed the Dutchwomen, 9-0. Cianfarano recorded the second four-goal game in Quinnipiac women's ice hockey history and first by a Bobcat in ECAC Hockey play. Overall in the league, it was the first four-goal game since Jackie Raines against Princeton in the 2013-14 season. The hat trick was Cianfarano's second of the season and third of her career after previously netting a hat trick at Clarkson in 3-0 win.
Adding one assist in the game, Cianfarano's five-point effort was the third in Quinnipiac women's ice hockey history, joining Kelly Babstock and Shiann Darkangelo who also had tallied five points in a game.
With 27 goals this season, Cianfarano has now recorded the third most goals in a single season in program history. She only trails Babstock's seasons of 28 goals in 2012-13 and 30 goals in 2010-11 for the most in program history. Cianfarano also has 48 points this season, which are the fourth most in a season behind Babstock's 49 in 2013-14, 55 in 2012-13 and 59 in 2010-11.
Cianfarano also became the second leading goal scorer in program history as she has netted 44 goals in just 69 career games. Nationally, Cianfarano's 44 career goals are the most by any sophomore in the country and rank 24th overall.
The top-seeded Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team opens up the ECAC Hockey quarterfinals against the No. 8 seed Rensselaer Engineers on Friday, Feb. 26 at 2 P.M. Game two of the series is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 27 at 2 P.M. and the third game of the series, if necessary, is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 28 at 2 P.M.
