BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania – The Quinnipiac men's cross country team placed 28th out of 38 teams in the Men's Gold 8k at the 43rd annual Paul Short Run held on the campus of Lehigh University. Brendan Copley (Colchester, Vermont) was the Bobcats' top finisher for the event as he placed 87th out of a field of 336 runners.
Running alongside several Division I powers including the top finisher on the day Iona (34 points), Quinnipiac totaled 777 points to claim their 28th place finish in the most competitive field on the day. Georgetown (115), Adams State (142), Penn (146) and Columbia (167) rounded out the top five.
Copley was strong once again as he prolonged his streak to three straight meets to start the season in which he has placed first on the team. Running in the most talented field the Bobcats have seen on the year, Copley managed to clock in at 24:43 for a mile pace of just under five minutes (4:59).
Keeping up with Copley for a majority of the race was Dylan Fearon (Tenafly, New Jersey) who came through with a solid 115th place finish. His third career appearance in the event was his best one yet as his second place finish on the team was his best-ever at the Paul Short Run. Fearon clocked in at 24:57 for a per-mile pace of 5:02.
Leading the second Bobcat pack was a pair of freshmen in Tommy Consalvo (Brookfield, Connecticut) and Michael Kiernan (Warwick, Rhode Island) as the tandem placed 204th and 209th overall, respectively. Consalvo paced the back pack with a time of 25:32 while Kiernan was not far behind his classmate as he finished with a time of 25:35.
Rounding out the scoring on the day for the Bobcats was a group fronted by junior Connor McAlary (Shoreham, New York) as he placed 261st overall, good enough for fifth on the team, with a time of 25:58. Junior Alex Doherty (Warwick, Rhode Island) placed 271st with a time of 26:03 while sophomore Ryan Ansel (Danbury, Connecticut) completed the Bobcats' top seven with a time of 26:11 to place 287th overall.
Quinnipiac is back in action next weekend as the Bobcats head to Franklin Park in Boston for the New England Championships on Saturday, Oct. 8.
