BOSTON, Massachusetts – The sensational 2014-15 season for the Quinnipiac women's indoor track and field team came to an end on Sunday at the ECAC Championships. Junior Shameal Samuels (Hartford, Connecticut) added another notch to her belt with a 3rd place finish in the 400m to cap off the most successful season for any Quinnipiac track and field athlete in program history. Samuels' 3rd place result earned six points for the Bobcats in the team standings to give Quinnipiac 32nd place out of 46 teams in the regional event that attracts the top track and field programs throughout the East Coast.
The 2015 MAAC Women's Track Most Outstanding Performer and New England Champion in the 400m was at it again on Sunday as she closed out her transcendent season with a 3rd place result out of 24 of the most talented runners in the eastern region. She remains the only Bobcat in Quinnpiac's Div. I history to place in the ECAC Championships, improving upon her 6th place finish in the 2014 ECAC Championships. Samuels qualified for the 400m finals with a time of 54.50 seconds in the preliminaries to place 3rd. She gave everything she had in the finals and legged out a time of 54.31 seconds to place her 3rd overall out of 10 finalists.
Samuels wasn't the only Bobcat to see the track at the ECAC Championships as several Quinnipiac distance runners competed in the well-attended regional. Junior Medinah Nabadduka (Windsor, Connecticut) made her first career appearance in the ECAC Championships and finished with an impressive time of 2:55.18 to place 14th out of 20 competitors in the 1000m run.
The 5000m run attracted several Bobcats as sophomore Niamh Ashe (East Islip, New York) and freshman Emily Wolff (Highlands Ranch, Colorado) both appeared in the 5000m finals. Ashe stood out as she earned 10th place out of 25 runners, finishing just two spots shy of placing for the Bobcats, as she clocked in at 17:14.25. Wolff, one of just two freshmen to be in competition out of 25 runners, also impressed with a time of 17:21.21 to pick up 17th place overall. Both Ashe and Wolff finished with new personal-bests in the 5000m at the ECAC Championships.
Freshman Jessica Lee (Montgomery, New Jersey) wrapped up an impressive rookie campaign with a time of 8.93 seconds in the 60m hurdles. Lee's time was good enough for 20th place out of 29 runners as she finishes the 2014-15 season as the program's first competitor to run in a hurdle event at the ECAC Championships.
Quinnipiac's 4x800m relay team of Tracy Campbell (Wall Township, New Jersey), Alyson Caron (Andover, New Jersey), Darby Ginley (Warwick, New York) and Chelsea Savage (Pembroke, Massachusetts) combined to run a time of 9:20.14.
The Bobcats enjoy a three-week break now and will resume action for the 2015 outdoor season at the end of March at the Fred Hardy Invite down in Richmond, Va.
