BOSTON, Massachusetts – The Quinnipiac University men's cross country team wrapped up their 2015 season with a 28th place finish out of 37 teams at the 2015 NCAA Northeast Regionals from Franklin Park in Boston. Senior Matt Mensher (Tolland, Connecticut) led the way for the Bobcats as he placed 78th out of the field of 247 competitors.
Syracuse captured the 2015 NCAA Northeast title as the Orange placed first with 29 total team points. The 25-time defending MAAC champs Iona gave Syracuse a run for their money as the Gaels took the runner-up spot with 40 team points. Quinnipiac finished the meet with 753 team points, finishing seventh among MAAC schools at the meet.
Mensher, the Bobcats' lone All-MAAC performer in 2015, finished his career in style as he led the team for the second straight meet and the fourth time this season with his 78th place result. His 78th place result was easily his best performance at an NCAA Regional event in his career as he toppled his previous best of 111th overall (2014 event) by 33 positions. Mensher wrapped up his career in the 10k with a time of 32:13.1.
Much like the MAAC Championships, right on Mensher's tail all afternoon was rising sophomore Drew Reda (Holmdel, New Jersey). For the second straight meet, Mensher and Reda went one-two in the Bobcats' standings as he crossed the line in 32:28.2 which was good enough for 95th overall. Like Mensher, Read improved considerably on his 2014 NCAA Northeast Regional performance as he moved up 23 spots from his finish (118th) in last year's event.
Racing in his first career NCAA Regional event, sophomore Kaelan Hayes (Meriden, Connecticut) continued his late-season run as he crossed the line in 179th place with a time of 33:40.4. Hayes' end-of-season run leads him into the offseason with plenty of momentum as his three most-recent results include a 5th place finish (1st on the team) at the CCSU sub-varsity meet, followed by a 63rd place finish (4th on the team) at the MAAC Championships and now with his showing at the NCAA Regional (3rd on the team), Hayes has elevated from a former walk-on into one of the team's most consistent performers.
Rounding out the Bobcats' scorers on the day included junior Dylan Fearon (Tenafly, New Jersey), who placed 205th overall with a time of 34:19. Right behind Fearon was Thomas Dextradeur (Branford, Connecticut) as the redshirt senior finished his career with a 209th place finish and time of 34:30 on Friday afternoon.
Quinnipiac caps their 2015 season and will say goodbye to Mensher and Dextradeur, who'll both graduate in the Spring of 2016. The program will look to continue to build off this season and have plenty of reason for optimism as 12-of-14 letterwinners return for the Bobcats in 2016, headlined by senior Brendan Copley (Colchester, Vermont) who'll look to make an All-Conference team in all four of his years competing as a Bobcat.
