QU Women's Volleyball Drops Conference Match to Siena, 3-0

HAMDEN, Conn. – In front of a large Bobcat crowd on Wednesday night, the Quinnipiac women's volleyball team fell to the MAAC-leading Siena Saints in straight sets (10-25, 13-25, 16-25). Three Bobcats each smashed five kills to lead the team.
Freshman setter Kat Miller (Collegeville, Pennsylvania) filled up the stat sheet, recording five kills, five assists and five digs on the day. Sophomore middle hitter Elizabeth Kloos (Munster, Indiana) slamed five kills while junior Katie Urycki (Chesterton, Indiana) knotted another five kills to go along with three digs and three total blocks. Sophomore Sierra Dawson (Larkspur, California) led Quinnipiac with 19 assists while Jen Coffey (Merrimack, New Hampshire) and Jamie Termotto (Smithtown, New York) each contributed four digs.
The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-10 victory in the opening set. Leading 6-5 early in the frame, Siena went on a 6-0 run to take a seven point advantage. The Saints closed out the set with a 13-5 run. Freshman Darby Taylor and junior Sonja Vasovic combined for nine kills on 10 swings for Siena. Quinnipiac recorded just four kills in the set with two coming off the hand of Miller.
The Bobcats fell into a two set hole after coming up short in the second frame, 13-25. Siena led the entire set after taking an early 2-0 advantage. Up 12-7, the Saints put the match out of reach with the next five consecutive points.
Miller added two more kills to her total while Dawson contributed four assists in the set.
Both sides battled back and forth in the final set, but Siena came away with the win, 25-22. Quinnipiac played their best frame of the match in the set, tallying a match-high 17 kills on 39 swings to record a .256 hitting percentage.
With the scored tied at 18, the Saints captured seven of the next 11 points to take the match in straight sets. A late kill by Termotto brought the score to 23-22 in favor of the opposition, but two smashes by Siena ended the match.
Kloos and Urycki each slammed four kills on seven swings and hit at a .571 clip in the closing set. Dawson contributed 13 of her 19 assists in the frame while also adding two digs and two kills on three attacks.
Quinnipiac is back in action with a conference doubleheader this weekend. On Saturday, October 31, the Bobcats will take on the Niagara Purple Eagles at 1 p.m. from Burt Kahn Court. The next day, Quinnipiac welcomes the Canisius Golden Griffins for another 1 p.m. showdown.
