HAMDEN, Connecticut – The No. 5/5 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team will be conducting a fundraiser to raise money at their next three home games for Do It For Daron (D.I.F.D), an organization which was created to bring awareness to mental health.
The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team will be selling purple rubber bracelets for $5 and welcoming other donations at their next three home games on Friday, Jan. 30 at 7 P.M., Saturday, Jan. 31 at 4 P.M. and Friday, Feb. 6 at 7 P.M. Bracelets can be purchased and donations will be collected at the Friends of Quinnipiac Women's Ice Hockey Table in the TD Bank Sports Center Lobby.
On the ice, members of the Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team will be sporting purple laces and purple hearts on their helmets with the D.I.F.D. logo. The team also encourage fans to wear purple to the games in their support of raising awareness for mental health.
The Bobcats became involved with the organization through Cydney Roesler (Stittsville, Ontario), who is close friends with the family of Daron Richardson, who committed suicide in Nov. 2010. Daron was the younger sister of Cornell women's ice hockey junior Morgan Richardson. The family and friends of Daron created D.I.F.D. in order to raise awareness for mental health and inspire people to talk about it. The Richardson's chose purple as the color for the organization as it was Daron's favorite color.
Roesler, senior Shiann Darkangelo (Brighton, Michigan) and the rest of the Bobcats are coordinating the fundraising through the selling of the bracelets for the first time this season. In the past, the Bobcats have worn the purple laces and stickers on their helmets to spread awareness in that way.
For more information on D.I.F.D. or to make an online donation, visit the link above and come out to the Quinnipiac women's ice hockey games the next two weekends.
This weekend, Quinnipiac faces the No. 4/4 Harvard Crimson on Friday at 7 P.M. followed by a matchup with the Dartmouth Big Green on Saturday at 4 P.M. The Bobcats will welcome Morgan Richardson and the No. 10/10 Cornell Big Red to Hamden next Friday, Feb. 6 at 7 P.M.
