
QU Women's Ice Hockey Senior Shiann Darkanglelo Scores, United States Falls to Canada in Four Nations Cup

Kamloops, British Columbia – Shiann Darkangelo (Brighton, Michigan) continued to shine on the national stage as she nearly sparked the United States Women's Ice Hockey National Team to victory over Canada Wednesday night with her first goal of the Four Nations Cup Tournament.
The U.S. and Canada were tied 1-1 in the second period when Darkangelo scored on the power play after collecting a rebound around the crease off Monique Lamoureux's shot from the point that was initially saved by Canadian goaltender Geneviéve Lacasse to give the U.S. a 2-1 lead and Darkangelo her second point of the tournament. The goal marks Darkangelo's first goal with the women's senior national team.
Darkangelo's goal stood as the difference until late in the third period when Canada scored two goals in 46 seconds to take a 3-2 lead and hang on for the victory.
Minnesota's Dani Cameranesi scored the other goal for the United States while former Cornell standout Rebecca Johnston netted two goals for Canada, including the game-winner with just 4:11 remaining in the game.
Quinnipiac's Erica Uden Johansson (Sundsvall, Sweden) also took the ice on day two of the Four Nations Cup when Sweden took on Finland in the early game of the day. For the second consecutive game, Sweden was shut out as they managed just 12 shots on goal in the 1-0 loss. Finland scored the lone goal of the game with 8:18 remaining in the third period.
Canada currently sits in first place at 2-0 with six points to lead the tournament, the United States and Finland are tied with three points with records of 1-1 and Sweden sits in last place at 0-2 with no points
Thursday marks a day off in the competition before play resumes on Friday, Nov. 7. Darkangelo and the United States will face her Quinnipiac line-mate Uden Johansson and Sweden on Friday at 4 P.M. EST. Canada will play Finland in the final preliminary game of the tournament at 10 P.M. EST.
