SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Quinnipiac baseball team lost to Notre Dame, 5-1, in the final game of its non-conference series at Frank Eck Stadium in South Bend, Ind. Quinnipiac drops to 10-24 overall while Notre Dame improves to 22-15.

Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Conn.) was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Guglietti now has a team-best active hitting streak of six games, as well as a team-high 11 multiple-hit games for the year. Chris Migani (Orange, Conn.) drove in his 12th run of the year while Scott Donaghue (Marlboro, N.J.), Ryan Nelson (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Steffen Herter (Amherst, Mass.) all collected hits in the loss.

In the second inning, Ryan Bull walked before stealing second and advancing to third on a passed ball. Charlie Markson then hit a pop fly down the right field line that dropped in in front of Bobcats' right fielder Mike Palladino (Rockville Center, N.Y.), who had no shot at the ball, to score Bull and give Notre Dame a 1-0 lead. After Notre Dame loaded the bases with two outs, Migani made the play of the game when Zak Kutsulis turned on an offering from Fabrizio, crushing a line drive towards the hole on the left side of the infield, but Migani was able to snare it to end the inning.

In the third, Eric Jagielo singled to lead off the inning before Trey Mancini tripled to left center before scoring on a double by Ryan Bull to give the Irish a 3-0 lead. Notre Dame tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth when Lane Richards crushed an RBI-double to the left-center field gap to score Bull as the Irish increased their lead to four runs, 4-0.

In the seventh, Guglietti led off the inning with a double to the base of the left-center field wall. After moving to third on a wild pitch by Notre Dame starter Sean Fitzgerald, Migani hit a high flyball to the warning track to score Guglietti and put Quinnipiac on the board. Donaghue followed with a soft liner to right field that was dropped as the sophomore shortstop reached on an error. After Nic Civale (East Windsor, Conn.) popped out, Nelson crushed a 2-and-2 pitch from Fitzgerald to the gap in right center for a double. Donaghue attempted to score but was thrown out at the plate on a perfect throw from short-right field by Irish second baseman Frank DeSico to the plate.

Kevin O'Connell (Glastonbury, Conn.) came on to start the seventh in relief of Fabrizio, who gave up four runs on nine hits over six innings. O'Connell was welcomed to the game with Mancini's second triple of the day to start the inning. Bull then followed with a line drive to right center that was chased down and corralled by Quinnipiac center fielder Brian Ruditys (Boothwyn, Pa.), with Mancini tagging-up to give Notre Dame a four-run lead, 5-1.

In the eighth, Connor Biggio (Houston, Texas) led off the inning with a line drive up the middle for a base hit, before stealing second base. After Johnson bunted him over, Kevin DeFillipis hit a ground ball to short with the infield drawn in. Donaghue came up throwing, retiring Biggio at the plate for the second out of the inning.

Quinnipiac returns to action when it travels to Hanover, N.H. to take on Dartmouth in a non-conference match-up at 3 p.m. The Bobcats will then host Wagner for a four-game Northeast Conference series on Apr. 26-28. The Bobcats and Seahawks will play a pair of nine-inning games on Friday, Apr. 26 at 3 p.m. and Sunday, Apr. 28 at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader feature two seven-inning games on Saturday, Arp. 27 at 1 p.m.
