HAMDEN, Conn. - The nationally-ranked No. 5 Quinnipiac acrobatics & tumbling team fell to No. 2 Oregon, in what was the Bobcat's first-ever National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association home meet on Monday night at the TD Bank Sports Center. Quinnipiac fought hard to compete with one of the country's top programs, but lost by a score of 289.204 - 281.669. The loss drops Quinnipiac's overall record to 1-4 on the season, while Oregon improves to a perfect 5-0 on the year.
Both sides were very evenly matched in the first half, as Oregon headed into the locker rooms with a slight lead, 98.380 - 97.045. Oregon began the meet with a victory in the compulsory event, scoring a 39.390 compared to Quinnipiac's 39.020.
Following a Ducks 29.540 - 28.325 win in the stunt event, Quinnipiac emerged victorious in the pyramid event. Despite the Bobcats' lower predetermined score (29.850 compared to Oregon's 30.00), Quinnipiac scored an impressive 29.700. The judges deducted more points from Oregon's predetermined score which resulted in its overall pyramid score of 29.450.
In the first event following halftime, the basket toss, the two teams contended in the closest event of the evening. While Oregon won the first two heats, Quinnipiac collected its highest score of the event with a near-perfect 9.95 in the third and final heat. Overall, the Ducks won the event with a 29.27 - 29.10 score.
Oregon opened up its lead in the meet with a 55.08 - 51.71 victory in the tumbling round. In the fifth heat of the event, the 6 element, Quinnipiac sophomore Christina Lasto (Oxford, Conn.) received a near-perfect score of 9.15 (out of a possible 9.20). Senior captain Erin Trotman (Bristol, Conn.) capped off the tumbling round with a remarkable open tumbling pass, scoring a 9.40 out of a possible 9.50.
In the final team routine event, Quinnipiac collected its highest score of the season with a 103.81. Oregon took the event, compiling a 106.47 in the evening's final event.
