Sunday's Game
The Quinnipiac University men's soccer team takes on
Sacred Heart Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m., at Campus Field in
Fairfield, Conn. The Bobcats and Pioneers are currently tied for
second place in the Northeast Conference with 10 points each.
Quinnipiac is coming off a 1-0 win at defending NEC Champion
Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday night in which the Bobcats scored the
game winner in the 90th minute of play.
Scouting the Pioneers
Sacred Heart and Quinnipiac are tied for second place in
the NEC with each team having 10 points. The Pioneers have played
one more conference game than the Bobcats and have an NEC mark of
3-1-1. The team is led offensively by Nemanja Filimonovic this
season with five points on two goals and one assist. Brian
Francolini and Jesper Frediksson each have a goal and an assist
this season. Alex Fait has played every minute in goal for the
Pioneers in 2009, posting a save percentage of .907 and 0.61
goals-against average.
"Milwaukee Miracle Man"
Philip Suprise (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored his sixth goal of
the season on Friday. His goal came in the 90th minute to lift the
Bobcats to the 1-0 win at Fairleigh Dickinson. Suprise stole the
ball from the defender at midfield and fired a shot into the top
right corner from the left sideline 40 yards out with 28 seconds
showing on the clock.
Giving Them A Chance to Win
Senior goalkeeper Freddy Hall (St. George, Bermuda)
recorded his sixth shutout of the season on Friday night. Turning
aside four shots, Hall guided Quinnipiac to its sixth win, despite
the Knights outshooting the Bobcats, 11-3.
Monkey Off Their Backs
Heading into Friday's game with Fairleigh Dickinson,
Quinnipiac had lost 11 of 13 all-time meetings between the two
teams. Last season, the No. 3 seeded Bobcats were eliminated from
the NEC tournament with a 2-0 loss in the semifinals in West Long
Branch, N.J., as the Knights would go on to win the conference
championship.
The Kid Can Play
Suprise now ranks second in the NEC in goals with six this
season. His game winner against the Knights was his second of 2009,
good for third in the conference.
Sunday's Forecast: Defensive Struggle
Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart rank second and third,
respectively, in the NEC in goals allowed in 2009. The Bobcats have
allowed just six goals in 12 games, while the Pioneers have allowed
seven in 11 games. Hall is second in the league in goals-against
average, while Sacred Heart's Fait is third. Both goalkeepers rank
in the top three in every statistical category this season.
The Last Meeting
Last season, Quinnipiac defeated Sacred Heart, 2-0, on
Oct. 19 in Hamden. The Bobcats lead the all-time series, 8-2,
including seven wins at home. Quinnipiac has not allowed Sacred
Heart to score a goal in the last three meetings, all Bobcat
victories.
