Tim Binkoski Becomes First ABCA Division I All-American In Quinnipiac Baseball History

Quinnipiac University senior Tim Binkoski (North Haven, Conn.) was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association Division I All-American Third Team, becoming the first player in Quinnipiac baseball history to earn All-American honors since moving to Division I. Binkoski was named to the ABCA All-Northeast Region First-Team while teammate Randy Gress (Shelton, Conn.) was named to the Second-Team.
Binkoski was named the Northeast Conference Baseball Player of the Year while also clinching a spot on the NEC First-Team. For the year, Binkoski posted a conference-high .424 batting average, which also ranked 8th nationally. His 81 hits this season were a new single season record at Quinnipiac while his 15 doubles were the 5th highest season total at Quinnipiac. For his career, he ranks seventh in career batting average (.367), third in runs scored (136) and is tied for eighth all-time with 118 runs batted in. His 245 career hits and 47 doubles were new records at Quinnipiac. Binkoski was previously named to the NEC First-Team in 2005 and in 2006.
Gress also had an outstanding season as he hit .297 with 12 homeruns and 45 runs batted in, earning him All-NEC First-Team honors. Gress led the conference in homeruns for the second straight season while also ranking in the top five in runs batted in and slugging percentage. For his career, Gress ranks ninth in runs scored (125), 11th in hits (180), tied for eighth in doubles (37), fifth in homeruns (28) and seventh in runs batted in (119). His 12 homeruns were the sixth highest single season total while his 45 RBI ranked fifth all-time.

Gress was drafted in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball First Year Players Draft by the Atlanta Braves while Binkoski was signed last week by the Philadelphia Phillies. Both athletes are currently playing in the Gulf Coast League.
