A four-year player at Quinnipiac in the late 1970s, Bill Martin was a valuable pitcher and position player for the baseball team. During his four years, the club had an overall record of 62–54–1, including a 23–9 mark in 1979. A team captain as a senior, he hit .368 with five home runs and 42 hits. During the 1978 season, Bill hit .350 with four home runs, 27 runs batted in and 40 hits. On the mound, he posted a 5–2 mark with a 3.93 earned run average. In his freshman season, Martin had a teambest 6–1 record to go along with a 3.06 ERA and 49 hits at the plate.
