Tony Payne was a member of Quinnipiac’s 1988 Northeast-10 Championship team that went on to the school’s most recent NCAA Tournament appearance. The 1988 Northeast-10 Conference Tournament MVP, Payne averaged 15.4 points while shooting 51 percent from the field and 82 percent from the free throw line in 1987–88. Payne also was named to the 1988 NCAA All-Regional Team. He currently ranks 26th on Quinnipiac’s all-time scoring list with 1,014 points despite playing only 12 games as a senior due to an injury.
