Sue Schulte, a four-year member of the Quinnipiac cross country team, was team captain as a senior while earning All-New England honors. Schulte paced the team in all but two meets as a sophomore and became the first Quinnipiac harrier to break the 20-minute mark in a dual meet. As a freshman, Schulte placed 28th in the NCAA Northeast Regional, while the team won seven of eight dual meets as well as the Quinnipiac Invitational. After graduation, she returned to Quinnipiac as the head men’s and women’s cross country coach in 1988. Schulte guided both teams for two years before handing over the reins of the men’s team to her husband, Woody, in 1990. In her first season with responsibility for only the women’s squad, Schulte guided the team to a surprising third-place finish in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship, improving on a seventh-place performance in 1989. Schulte coached the women’s team for five years.
