Steven "Turk" Wendell

Turk Wendell had a collegiate season to remember in 1988, when the team won the Northeast-10 Tournament title and earned an NCAA Tournament berth in the process. Wendell struck out 66 batters and allowed 25 earned runs on 51 hits in 62 innings pitched. He set an NCAA Tournament record that year, pitching 15 innings vs. Mansfield. Wendell finished his Quinnipiac career with a 13–8 record, seven saves and a 3.49 ERA while posting 169 strikeouts in 180.1 innings. He was an All-Conference selection following the 1987 season and was named second team All-New England in 1988. Wendell was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 1988, and later traded to the Chicago Cubs, where he earned a stellar reputation as a closer. He joined the New York Mets in 1997, played in the 2000 World Series against the New York Yankees and now plays for the Philadelphia Phillies.
