As a Senior in 2018:
- 2018 MAAC All-Academic Team
- Had two top-10 finishes at the MAAC Championships (5/5-6) with new personal bests
- Came in fourth in the discus at MAACs with a 43.62
- Added a 10th-place finish in the javelin with a new personal best of 31.88
- Qualified for the ECAC Championships in the discus
- Finished first in the discus at the Yale Springtime Invitational with a 39.98 (4/29). was also fifth in the javelin and seventh in the shot put
- Broke 40 meters in the discus for the first time at the Auburn Tiger Track Classic (4/14), uncorking a throw of 40.99 to break her old PR by over two meters
- Won the discus at the Colonial Relays with a 38.75 (4/6) in her first competition of the spring.
- Came in second in the discus (38.37) at the Stony Brook Wolfie Invitational (4/21)

- Performed well at the Miami Hurricane Alumni Invitational (4/7) with a fifth place finish in the discus throw (38.50m) and sixth place result in the shot put (11.02m)
- Posted a fourth place finish in the discus throw (38.62m) and seventh place result in the shot put (11.78m) at the UMass Minuteman Invitational (4/15)
- Placed fifth in the shot put (11.70m) and sixth in the discus throw (36.32m) at the Yale Springtime Invitational (4/30)
- Competing in three events at the MAAC Championships (5/6), placing eighth in the discus throw (38.63m), 15th in the shot put (11.39m) and 16th in the javelin (30.05m)
- Closed out her season placing 17th in the shot put (11.80m) and 21st in the discus throw (35.45m) at the New England Championships (5/12)
As a Sophomore in 2016:
- 2016 MAAC All-Academic Team
- Placed 11th out of 25 in the discus with a throw of 37.78m in the George Mason Spring Invitational (4/9)
- Captured sixth place in the shot put (11.54m) and eighth in the discus (33.84m) at the UMass Minuteman Invitational (4/16)
- Took third in the shot put (11.46m) and fourth in the discus (36.40m) in the Wolfie Invitational (4/23)
- Posted a third place result in the shot put (11.51m) and fifth in the javelin (28.78m) at the Yale Springtime Invitational (5/1)
- Showed well at the MAAC Championships (5/7), placing sixth in the discus (35.11m), eighth in the shot put (11.51m) and ninth in the javelin (31.72m)
- Competed for the first time at the New England Championships (5/13) where she placed 12th in the discus (37.61m) and 20th in the shot put (11.64m)
As a Freshman in 2015:
- Tied for ninth in the shot put at the Rider Invite (4/11) with a throw of 10.69m
- Also placed eighth in the discus with a throw of 31.17m at the Rider Invite
- Placed eighth in the javelin (31.36m), 10th in the shot put (10.78m) and 12th in the discus (31.37m) at the MAAC Championships (5/2)
Prior to Quinnipiac:
- Lettered in track, basketball and volleyball in her four years at the Academy of the Holy Angels
- Was named First Team All-League in 2014 after growing into her signature shot-put event
- Also picked up First Team All-Division honors in the shot-put in 2014
- Before breaking out in her senior year, Merkel was also named Second Team All-League in the shot-put, Second Team All-Division and honorable mention All-Bergen for girls track & field
- Led her team to the 2012 County Relay Championship
Personal:
- Born in Englewood, N.J. and raised in Hillsdale, N.J.
- Daughter of Ronald and Colleen Merkel
- Has one younger brother Aidan
- Mackenzie’s younger brother has influenced her life in many ways as Aidan is autistic and did suffer from prader-willi syndrome as well as hypotonia
- After watching many of his physical therapy session, she found the passion and motivation to pursue the career of a physical therapist
- Always keen to the struggle of her younger brother, Merkel’s internal drive and competition comes directly from the inner strength shown every day from Aidan
- Majoring in Physical Therapy/Athletic Training at Quinnipiac
