State College, PA – The Quinnipiac women's golf team set a new single-round record with a team total score of 279 (-9) in the second round of the Nittany Lion Invitational on Monday in State College, PA. Quinnipiac closed out the first day of the Invitational in fifth place with a two-round total of 570, which sits seven strokes back of the leaders, the University of Maryland.

After shooting a 75 (+3) in the first 18, Sophia Fujita bounced back with her best round as a Bobcat, shooting a 66 (-6) to put her in a tie for eighth place after day one of the Nittany Lion Invitational.

Michelle Wong came in right behind Fujita with a two-round total of 142 (-2) as she shot a 71 (-1) in both rounds to open up her season.

Samantha Galantini had a stellar showing in round two after shooting a 75 (+3) in the first round. Galantini had the second-best round of the Bobcats on day one, shooting a 68 (-4) to close out the opening day.

Zoie Chan started her collegiate career with a 72 (E) opening round and a 75 (+3) in the second round. Chan finished with a two-round score of 147 (+3). Marisa Flores also closed out day one with a total score of 147 (+3), carding a 73 (+1) in round one and a 74 (+2) in round two.

Five Quinnipiac individuals closed out play at the Happy Valley Individual after playing one round on Monday at the Penn State White Course in State College.

Of those individuals, Natalie Spiska finished the first round with the highest score, shooting a 78 (+6) to start the tournament.

Amy Goddard finished a stroke behind Spiska with a score of 80 (+7) to begin her first tournament of the season.

Both Tekla Fine-Lease and Vaidehi Shah closed out the first day with a final total of 80 (+8), and Alexia Egdahl rounded out the first round carding an 83 (+11).

The Bobcats will be back in action tomorrow, Tuesday, September 8^th, to close out play in State College with the tee times slated for a 9 AM start.

SCORES AND NOTES

Quinnipiac set a new program record for best single-round score with a 279 (-9) in the second round of the Nittany Lion Invitational.
The Bobcats sit just seven strokes back of the leaders, the University of Maryland, heading into the final round on Tuesday.
Sophia Fujita shot a 66 (-6) in the second round on Monday, which is good for her lowest round as a Bobcat.
Fujita is tied for third in the field with nine birdies on day one. All five Bobcats competing at the Nittany Lion Invitational recorded at least five birdies.
Samantha Galantini had the second-best round among the Bobcats, shooting a 68 (-4) in the second round of the Invitational.
Galantini leads the Bobcats with 27 pars out of 36 holes to begin the Nittany Lion Invitational.
All five Bobcats competing at the Happy Valley Individual recorded one birdie in the first round, led by Tekla Fine-Lease, who finished with two.
Amy Goddard finished day one tied for ninth with 11 pars on Monday.
