Bobcats Record Top Performances at Most Prestigious US Track Event
PHILADELPHIA — Grad student Alessandra Zaffina and juniors Sierra Gray and Rachel St. Germain brought their best to the 2025 Penn Relays, the oldest and most prestigious track event in the United States, resulting in a new school record and all three recording personal-bests that landed them inside the top two of their respective events in program history.
Zaffina blew past her previous school record, marking 10:05.69 in the 3000m Steeplechase, claiming fifth amongst some of the best runners of the event in the country. That puts her top in the MAAC by a wide margin and No. 11 in the NCAA East Region, putting her in position to qualify for the NCAA First Round meet at the end of May in Jacksonville, Fla.
Gray and St. Germain both blew past their previous personal bests in the 10k and 5k, respectively, catapulting them to second all-time on the program's outdoor top 10 list. St. Germain was the second Bobcat to race on Thursday night, finishing the 5k in 16:32.57, the fastest time by a Quinnipiac runner since 2006 (Kaitlyn Gwyther). Gray then ended the night with a personal-best in the 10k, cementing her top two spot with a 35:32.34 time, which puts her 13.4 seconds off Liv DiStefano's program record from 2024.
The Bobcats are competing Friday at Central Connecticut and in the first weekend of May at Princeton before the MAAC Outdoor Championships at Rider, May 10-11.
