Monroe Crowned League Player of the Year, Pecora Named Coach of the Year

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac men's basketball has earned a pair of major All-MAAC awards following the completion of the 2024-25 regular season, as junior forward Amarri Monroe was crowned the league's Player of the Year and Tom Pecora was named MAAC Coach of the Year.
Pecora wins the league's Coach of the Year honors for the second consecutive season after guiding the Bobcats to another MAAC regular season title. Under Pecora's guidance, Quinnipiac has posted an impressive 15-5 MAAC record in both 2023-24, and in 2024-25.
Pecora has more wins (30) over his first two seasons than any men's basketball head coach in the history of the MAAC. He adds to his coach of the year honors over the course of his career. In 2006 and 2009, he was named Coach of the Year by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) and he also received regional Coach of the Year honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and the Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY). He's earned back-to-back MAAC Coach of the Year honors after leading Quinnipiac to two consecutive regular season titles (2023-24 & 2024-25).
Monroe paced Quinnipiac in 2024-25, averaging 17.7 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game – all of which led the team. Monroe impressed by averaging a double-double in league play (19.8 PPG & 10.5 RPG). He finished the regular season leading the MAAC in rebounds per game (9.2), offensive rebounds per game (7.00), and double-doubles (14).
The Newburgh, New York-native recorded 20+ points in 15 different games. He also grabbed 10+ rebounds in eight consecutive contests to wrap up the regular season.
The junior forward becomes QU's second Player of the Year in as many seasons. Monroe is the fourth player in Quinnipiac program history to be named conference player of the year. Justin Rutty was named NEC Player of the Year in 2009-10, Cameron Young earned MAAC Player of the Year status in 2018-19, and Matt Balanc was crowned the league's Player of the Year in 2023-24).
No. 1 Quinnipiac will begin action at the MAAC Tournament on Wednesday, March 12 at 6:00 PM. The Bobcats will play the winner of Siena/Rider in the quarterfinal round at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City.
