HAMDEN, Conn. — The Quinnipiac women's cross country and track and field program, along with head coach Carolyn Martin, announced the promotion of Joe Van Gilder to associate head coach, effective for the upcoming 2024-25 campaign that begins in August.
Van Gilder enters his sixth season with the program, working mainly with sprinters and relay teams, and is a key part of the Bobcats' upward trajectory over the last few seasons that most recently saw the program break its MAAC Outdoor Championships points record at Rider this May.
"I wanted to express my heartfelt gratitude for the recent promotion to associate head coach," Van Gilder said. "I am truly honored and excited about the opportunity to take on this new role. I appreciate Carolyn Martin's confidence in my abilities and look forward to continuing to contribute to the team's success."
During the 2023-24 campaign, Van Gilder's crew took home four MAAC Indoor titles and three MAAC Outdoor titles.
The spring campaign was highlighted by the sprint medley relay team breaking the school record and taking home the collegiate title at the 2024 Penn Relays, defeating competition from all over the country.
Overall, Van Gilder has played a prominent role in 24 MAAC Indoor and Outdoor Titles since 2020.
"Joe has done a tremendous job with our program and has been instrumental in helping to make it what it is today," head coach Carolyn Martin said. "He shares the same team vision and pushes our women to be great leaders not only in our sport but in life. He truly embodies a selfless coaching style and celebrates every single athlete's victories."
Prior to his time here at Quinnipiac, Van Gilder was a six-time Northeast 10 Assistant Coach of the Year winner and a featured presenter at the USTFCCCA Convention in 2017 while working at Southern Connecticut State, earning the award three times each for both indoor and outdoor track and field.
