HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's soccer team continues its season Wednesday afternoon, hosting Merrimack at 2:30 in Hamden.

THE MATCHUP: vs. Merrimack

Merrimack is 2-10-2 with wins over St. Joseph's and Saint Peter's.
Tony Martone is the head coach of the warriors in his 43rd season.
Samuel Biven leads Merrimack with two goals and one assist.
This is the first meeting between the two programs.

SENIOR DAY LOSS TO IONA

The Bobcats fell 1-0 on Saturday afternoon to Iona.
The Gaels scored their lone goal on a penalty kick in the 76th minute.

ROAD LOSS AT MANHATTAN

On Wednesday night, the Bobcats fell 4-2 at Manhattan.
Noe Cabaezas and Francisco Ferreira each scored in the loss.

MAAC OPENING WIN OVER SACRED HEART

Three Bobcats scored in their conference opening match up with the Pioneers.
William Holum, Sivert Ryssdalsnes, and Luke Schierenbeck each scored in the second half to lift the Bobcats.
Drew Seguro also dished two assists.

DOMINANT WIN OVER FARMINGDALE STATE

The Bobcats scored a record nine goals on their way to a shutout victory on Tuesday afternoon in Hamden.
Fredrik Moen scored twice, 44 seconds apart to open the game.
Fredrik Moen, Luke Schierenbeck, and Simon Bakken each scored the first goal their collegiate careers.
William Holum and Francisco Ferreira each had a goal and two assists.
Filip Kangeman tallied a goal and an assist to bring his season total up to 10 points.
Alex Miller notched two assists to bring his team-leading total up to 5 on the year.

TOUGH LOSS TO YALE

The Bobcats fell in a tight 2-1 battle with Yale on Tuesday afternoon.
Yale broke the scoreless tie late with a goal before Filip Kangeman knotted the score back at one.
The Bulldogs would score in the 83rd minute to retake the lead and win the game.

SCORELESS TIE WITH LA SALLE

QU fought to 0-0 tie La Salle over a week ago in Hamden.
Junior Keeper Karl Netzell made four key saves facing 10 total shots recording his second shutout of the season and ninth in his career.

DOMINANT WIN OVER CCSU

The Bobcats exploded for five first half goals in their win over CCSU on Tuesday afternoon.
Noe Cabazes scored two goals in the game for the first time in his career.
William Holum and Benjamin Telle each scored their first collegiate goal.
Filip Kangeman scored his second goal of the season.

RAINY LOSS TO ST. BONAVENTURE

On Saturday afternoon, the Bobcats fell 2-1 to St. Bonaventure.
João Pinto scored the Bobcats lone goal to even the game in the 73^rd minute.
SBU took the lead back with a goal in the 85^th minute.

HOME WIN OVER COLUMBIA

The Bobcats topped Columbia 2-0 at home last Friday afternoon.
Drew Seguro scored on a pass from Alex Miller in the 27th minute to take the lead.
Filip Kangeman added another goal four minutes later.
Karl Netzell made four saves for his ninth career clean sheet.

LOSS AT URI

The Bobcats fell at URI 1-0, on Monday night.
QU outshot URI 15-4 and generated 10 corners.
Filip Kangeman had two shots on goal.

SEASON OPENING LOSS AT PROVIDENCE

The Bobcats fell 2-0 in their season opener at Providence College on Thursday, Aug. 22.
Karl Netzell made four saves.
Sivert Ryssdalsnes tallied a shot on goal.

TABBED SIXTH IN MAAC PRESEASON POLL

After finishing ninth a season ago, the Bobcats were picked to finish sixth in the conference in the Coaches' preseason poll.

LEADERSHIP GROUP

The Bobcats have announced their 2024 captains, Terrance Wilder Jr., Karl Netzell, and Noe Cabezas.
Wilder Jr. enters his fifth season as a Bobcat on the backline after leading the Bobcats in minutes a season ago.
Netzell, a MAAC All-Second Team selection in 2022, returns for his third season as a Bobcat.
Cabezas returns for his second season as a Bobcat after transferring in a season ago. He started in 15 games, tallying one assist.

NEWCOMERS

QU welcomes nine newcomers in its recruiting class this season, which includes seven international players.
Sivert Ryssdalsnes, William Holum, and Fredrik Moen join the Bobcats from Norway while Fynn Ost and Benjamin Telle are from Germany.
Joey Saputo Jr., a transfer from UConn, is from Canada and Pol Mesalles is from Spain.
The Bobcats have also two Connecticut players, with Juan Hernandez and Drew Monteserin.

HEAD COACH ERIC DA COSTA

Head Coach Eric Da Costa enters his 20^th season with the Bobcats in 2023. Da Costa is 152-141-61 during his time at QU.
Da Costa has built a strong reputation for success at QU, leading the Bobcats to the postseason conference tournament in 10 of the last 12 seasons (2012 in the NEC, 2013-2022).
The Bobcats have reached the MAAC title game five times under Da Costa, reaching the NCAA Tournament twice. He was also named the 2022 MAAC Coach of the Year for his outstanding leadership.

2024 SCHEDULE

Quinnipiac's fall 2024 schedule features 16 regular season contests, with eight non-league games.
The Bobcats are set to host 10 games in Hamden this season, including a stretch of six in a row starting with the home opener against Columbia (Aug. 30) and ending against FDU (Sep. 26).
They open MAAC play on Oct. 5, traveling to Fairfield, Conn. to face MAAC newcomer Sacred Heart.
