HANOVER, NH – After nearly a two-week hiatus, Quinnipiac field hockey continues its 2023 campaign on Friday afternoon, traveling to take on Dartmouth for a non-league matchup at 3:00 PM before returning to Hamden for a home contest with Bryant on Sunday noon.

THE BOBCATS SO FAR
- Quinnipiac opened the season at 0-2 after falling against New Hampshire and UMass in the opening weekend
- The Bobcats dropped both games by a single goal
- Emilia Massarelli leads the Bobcats with three goals and six points on the season
- Massarelli was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her play over the first two games of the season
- Stella Tegtmeier leads the Bobcats with three assists and second on the team with three points on the season
THE NINA KLEIN ERA
- Nina Klein was named the head field hockey coach and second coach in program history, effective Friday, April 28, 2023, replacing longtime head coach Becca Main
- A selector for USA Field Hockey U16 goalkeepers, Klein returns to Quinnipiac after serving as the assistant field hockey coach at Boston College for the 2022 season.
- Before working at Boston College, Klein served under former Quinnipiac field hockey head coach Becca Main for four seasons
- Klein joined Quinnipiac prior to the 2019 campaign and was elevated to associate head coach at the conclusion of the season
- A Uconn graduate, Klein served the Huskies as a volunteer assistant for the 2018 season
- Klein also competed with the USA Field Hockey Women's National Development Team during her time as a coach with the Bobcats
- In the Spring of 2019, Klein attended several training camps and a training trip with USA Field Hockey
- Klein competed at the USA Field Hockey Young Women's National Championship and earned another invite to the USA Field Hockey Women's National Development Team selection camp in January 2020
BUILDING A FOUNDATION
- Last season the Bobcats finished with eight wins, the most since the 2015 season
- Quinnipiac earned two wins over ranked opponents last season, the most in program history
- The Bobcats return 14 student-athletes that saw time on the turf
PRESEASON HONORS
- Stella Tegtmeier has been named the BIG EAST Preseason Co-Midfielder of the Year, along with garnering Preseason All-BIG EAST Team honors, as announced by the conference office on Thursday, August 17
- Since joining the conference, Tegtmeier is the first Bobcats' student-athlete to earn a Preseason BIG EAST major award and the fourth player in program history to be named to a Preseason All-BIG EAST Team
- Tegtmeier's senior campaign with the Bobcats was highlighted with eight goals, tying for the team lead with Emilia Massarelli and leading the Bobcats in assists (8) and points (24). Tegtmeier's goal total was career-high for the standout while her 24 points for the season were also the most for her career.
LEADERS OF THE NEXT CHAPTER
- Olivia Howard, Julianna Cappello, and Micaela Grajales earned leadership roles for the upcoming season, as they were named captains by their teammates and coaches
- Cappello and Howard are two-time captains, while this is the first year in the role for Grajales
- Last season Howard appeared in a career-best 19 games last season, with her lone goal of the season being the game-winner in Quinnipiac's 3-0 win over Sacred Heart on Oct. 30.
- Cappello has played in 61 games over four seasons and has started in 55 of those, totaling 13 goals and five assists for 31 points
THE '23 SCHEDULE
- Quinnipiac field hockey head coach Nina Klein announced the Bobcats' 2023 schedule featuring 11 games at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Stadium
- Following the home opener, QU will travel for a road bout against Dartmouth on Sept. 8 before playing three of its next four contests in Hamden
- The Bobcats will host Bryant (Sept. 10) before heading to Providence (Sept. 15) to open BIG EAST play
- After a weekend off, Quinnipiac will return to action on Sept. 22 for a conference battle with Villanova, before welcoming crosstown rivals Yale to the QU Field Hockey Stadium on Sept. 24
- The Bobcats return to the road on Sept. 29 against BIG EAST foe Georgetown, followed by a neutral site contest against Sacred Heart on Oct. 1 at Yale
- Quinnipiac kicks off a stretch of four straight home games beginning with a bout against UConn on Oct. 6. That weekend QU will also host Maine (Oct. 8), before welcoming Liberty (Oct. 13) and Hofstra (Oct. 15) to Hamden.
- Following the three-game homestand, Quinnipiac wraps its road slate with a contest at Old Dominion on Oct. 20
- The Bobcats conclude the 2023 regular season at home with contests against Lafayette (Oct. 22), Temple (Oct. 27) and Drexel (Oct. 29)
