THE BOBCATS SO FAR
- Quinnipiac opened the season at 0-2 after falling against New Hampshire and UMass in the opening weekend
- The Bobcats dropped both games by a single goal
- Since then, the Bobcats picked up back-to-back wins over Dartmouth (2-1) and Bryant (4-1)
- Emilia Massarelli leads the Bobcats with three goals and is second on the team with seven points on the season
- Stella Tegtmeier leads the Bobcats with five assists and nine points on the season
THE NINA KLEIN ERA
- Nina Klein was named the head field hockey coach and second coach in program history, effective Friday, April 28, 2023, replacing longtime head coach Becca Main
- A selector for USA Field Hockey U16 goalkeepers, Klein returned to Quinnipiac after serving as the assistant field hockey coach at Boston College for the 2022 season.
- Before working at Boston College, Klein served under former Quinnipiac field hockey head coach Becca Main for four seasons
- Klein picked up her first career win as a head coach on Sept. 8, 2023 with a 2-1 victory over Dartmouth on the road
- Klein earned the first home win of her head coaching career on Sept. 13, 2023 with a 4-1 victory over Bryant
STELLAR STELLA
- Named the Preseason BIG EAST Co-Midfielder of the Year, Stella Tegtmeier is off to a hot start to the season
- Tegtmeier has totaled two goals and five assists for nine points on the season
- Her five assists and nine points are tops on the team
- Tegtmeier is averaging 1.25 assists per game, which ranks third in the nation
- Tegtmeier has three multi-point games this season
- Tegtmeier's two goals occurred in Quinnipiac's 2-1 victory over Dartmouth
TOP-TIER TORRES
- Sophomore keeper Cristina Torres has shown growth from her rookie season
- Torres boasts a 0.771 save percentage, which ranks 20th in the nation and third in the BIG EAST
- Torres has a 1.92 goals-against average
- Torres is averaging 6.75 saves per game, which ranks ninth in the nation and second in the BIG EAST
BUILDING A FOUNDATION
- Last season the Bobcats finished with eight wins, the most since the 2015 season
- Quinnipiac earned two wins over ranked opponents last season, the most in program history
- The Bobcats return 14 student-athletes that saw time on the turf
PRESEASON HONORS
- Stella Tegtmeier has been named the BIG EAST Preseason Co-Midfielder of the Year, along with garnering Preseason All-BIG EAST Team honors, as announced by the conference office on Thursday, August 17
- Since joining the conference, Tegtmeier is the first Bobcats' student-athlete to earn a Preseason BIG EAST major award and the fourth player in program history to be named to a Preseason All-BIG EAST Team
- Tegtmeier's senior campaign with the Bobcats was highlighted with eight goals, tying for the team lead with Emilia Massarelli and leading the Bobcats in assists (8) and points (24). Tegtmeier's goal total was career-high for the standout while her 24 points for the season were also the most for her career.
LEADERS OF THE NEXT CHAPTER
- Olivia Howard, Julianna Cappello, and Micaela Grajales earned leadership roles for the upcoming season, as they were named captains by their teammates and coaches
- Cappello and Howard are two-time captains, while this is the first year in the role for Grajales
- Last season Howard appeared in a career-best 19 games last season, with her lone goal of the season being the game-winner in Quinnipiac's 3-0 win over Sacred Heart on Oct. 30.
- Cappello has played in 61 games over four seasons and has started in 55 of those, totaling 13 goals and five assists for 31 points
NEXT UP
- After a weekend off, Quinnipiac will return to action on Sept. 22 for a conference battle with Villanova, before welcoming crosstown rivals Yale to the QU Field Hockey Stadium on Sept. 24
