St. Germain Wins Steeplechase to Highlight QU at Northeast Challenge

STORRS, Conn. — Freshman Rachel St. Germain earned her first individual track and field victory on Saturday afternoon, taking first in the 3000 Steeplechase as part of the two-day UConn Northeast Challenge over the weekend.
The Somers, Conn., native finished the race in 10:50.61, a collegiate-best and the fourth-fastest time on the Bobcats' performance list.
Quinnipiac is all over the MAAC Outdoor rankings after the weekend, with nine performances currently sitting inside the Top 5 in the league with championships two weeks away.
Rylie Smith ran the fastest time in the MAAC in the 400m, clocking in at 55.48.
St. Germain is one of three Bobcats who sit second in the league in their respective event after the weekend, with Nyasia Dailey's 12.09 in the 100m and Christina Gunsalus' 2:13.51 in the 800m both sitting second in the league rankings.
The Bobcats turned in a pair of personal-best runs in the 1500m, with Alessandra Zaffina (4:34.43) and Liv DiStefano (4:34.87) finishing fourth and fifth in the 1500m, respectively.

- Sydney Lavelle (1:04.18) posted the fourth-fastest time in the 400m hurdles.
- Christina Gunsalus jumped into the Top 10 in the 800m, posting a personal-best 2:13.51 to claim ninth.
- Zaffina (4:34.43) and DiStefano (4.34.87) sit fourth and fifth on the program charts in the 1500m.
- St. Germain's 10:50.61 in the 3000m Steeplechase places her fourth in the program's ranks.
- Nyasia Daley, Hailey Tolson, Sydney Lavelle and Rylie Smith combined for a 48.16 in the 4x100, the sixth-fastest time in program history.
- Camille Blain (29.01m) and Grace Davis (28.94m) jumped to ninth and tenth in the javelin throw.
- Blain also tossed a 10.42m in the shot put, good for seventh in the program's history.
