QUEENS, N.Y.-- The Quinnipiac softball team dropped both matchups on day one of the Red Storm Classic in Queen, N.Y on Saturday, March 4. The Bobcats lost 9-1 in five innings against St. John's and 6-2 against Drexel.

Brooke HIlliard's single to center field advanced Mary Fogg to the third and gave Bridget Nasir the opportunity to cross home plate and cut the Red Storm's lead by one.

Kennedy Demott's single to right brought Amanda Engel home and the score tied up at one. Lala Pascual's single to center drove Engel home to give the Bobcats a brief lead before Drexel ultimately took the matchup.

SCORING SUMMARY
Game one:
First Inning:

St. John's went up by four runs early in the first inning. London Jarrard stole home to give the Red Storm a 1-0 lead followed by a double to center from Anese Thompson to add two more runs to the board for St. John's. Cassidy Stouffer doubled giving Thompson the time and space to cross home plate and secure a 4-0 lead heading into the next frame.

Third inning:

Brooke Hilliard's single to center field advanced Mary Fogg to third while Bridget Nasir scored to cut St. John's lead to three.
The Red Storm answered the Bobcat's run in the bottom of the third when Katie Whittaker touched home on a flyout to right field by Thompson, bringing the score to 5-1 St. John's.

Fourth inning:

The Red Storm raged on in the fourth, adding another four runs to the board. Peyton Cody walked to advance Jess Bianco to home plate, followed by Jarrard stealing home for the second time. Another Thompson single to left field brought in Cody and Whittaker and the final score to 9-1 St. John's.

NOTES:

Bridget Nasir recorded one run and one hit in two at bats.
Brooke Hilliard tallied the lone RBI and one hit in two at bats.
Sydney Horan pitched three strikeouts through 3.1 innings.

Game two:
First inning:

Drexel went up by one in the first inning as Ashley Errico singled to center and Izzy Alamillo scored.

Second inning:

The Bobcats evened the score at one in the top of the second as Kennedy Demott's single to right field gave Amanda Engel the go-ahead home.

Fourth Inning:

The Bobcats took the lead in the top of the fourth as Engle singled to right field and then stole second. From there Lala Pascual singled and gave Engel time to cross home plate, making the score 2-1 in QU's favor.
The Dragons took control of the matchup in the bottom frame of the fourth as Errico scored on an error at first base. Drexel added another to the board as Mia Garza scored on a single to left field from Grace Abbonizio, leaving the bases loaded and the score 3-2 Dragons.
A groundout to second gave Devyn Demchak the go ahead home and a single from Mooney pushed Abbonizio and Madison Gayle across home plate, and the score to 6-2 Dragons.
