HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University women's cross country and track & field Head Coach Carolyn Martin announced the addition of Brendan Wilkins as an assistant coach to the programs on Friday, July 29.
"We are so excited to add Brendan to our staff this year, his expertise in the jumps and multi events is going to help our program move to new levels," Martin said. "We feel Brendan has a very calm and genuine demeanor and he will help to continue to create a great atmosphere for our athletes to excel."
Prior to joining the Bobcats, Wilkins served as an assistant men's and women's track and field coach for Springfield College. In his four seasons at Springfield, Wilkins coached six NCAA Div. III All-Americans, 13 NCAA DIII Championship Qualifiers and produced 21 DIII New England All-Region Athletes. In 2021 he was named the USTFCCCA DIII New England Men's Assistant Coach of The Year.
In recognition for his efforts during the 2020-21 campaign, Wilkins was selected as the USTFCCCA New England Men's Assistant Coach of the Year as 12 student-athletes on the men's squad collected the all-region recognition, the most of any program in the NEWMAC.
Prior to his time at Springfield College, Wilkins spent four seasons as the assistant men's and women's indoor-outdoor track/cross country coach at the United States Coast Guard Academy. While with the Bears, Wilkins coached horizontal and vertical jumps, which included the daily practice and weight training plans for student-athletes that competed in high jump, pole vault, long jump and triple jump. Wilkins was also responsible for team social media postings and recruiting.
While at Coast Guard, Wilkins coached one NCAA Division III National Champion (men's long jump), three Division III New England champions (two men's pole vault, one men's long jump), one All New England champion (men's long jump) and one New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Champion (men's long jump), as he also helped student-athletes break a combined three program records.
Wilkins competed for the men's track and field program at Ithaca College, as he also earned a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Sustainability in Practice in May of 2014. While with the Bombers, Wilkins served as a team co-captain, while he was also a seven-time ECAC high jump qualifier and a three-time All-Empire 8 honoree.
Additionally, Wilkins earned the Larry Czarnecki Field Athlete Award and the Isadore "Doe" Yavits Sportsmanship Award. Wilkins completed a Masters of Sports Science in Sports Coaching with an Emphasis in NCAA Compliance from the United States Sports Academy.
"Brendan's philosophy in coaching aligns so well with us here at QU, our entire staff is looking forward to collaborating with him," Martin added. "We couldn't be happier to invite him into our program!"
