Caverly and O'Donnell Lead Bobcats Past Lehigh

Bobcats Overcome Nine-Point Fourth Quarter Deficit in Win over Mountain Hawks
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Graduate student guard Rose Caverly totaled 15 points and eight assists to lead the Quinnipiac University women's basketball team (3-3) to a fourth-quarter comeback victory against Lehigh (2-5), 67-64, on Sunday afternoon in the consolation game of the Christmas City Classic inside of Stabler Arena.
It was a full-team effort, as the Bobcats saw four different players reach double-figure scoring in the back-and-forth battle. Caverly led all players with 15 points and eight assists, while Ella O'Donnell tallied career-highs of 14 points and five rebounds in her first collegiate start. Cur'Tiera Haywood contributed 11 points, while Mikala Morris notched 10 points of her own in the victory.
The Bobcats came out on fire from the field, using the first five minutes of the contest to jump out to a 15-5 lead after going a perfect 6-for-6 from the field to open the game.
Quinnipiac's lead reached as much as 12 points in the first quarter before the Bobcats took a 22-13 lead into the second.
The Mountain Hawks fought back early in the period, executing a swift 5-1 run to open the frame before the Bobcats called a timeout leading 23-18 with 7:59 remaining in the first half. Lehigh's run extended to 18-9, as they knotted the contest at 31-31 with just under three minutes left in the first half.
However, the Bobcats closed the half with a swift 6-0 run to take a 37-31 lead into the break.
Lehigh came out of the gates firing to open the second half, knocking down three of their first four shots in the frame to go on an 8-2 run to knot the contest at 39-39 before Quinnipiac called a timeout. However, the Bobcats responded by holding the Mountain Hawks scoreless over the next 5:18 of play, going on a 7-0 run of their own to push ahead 46-39.
However, the Mountain Hawks closed the half with a 9-0 run of their own to take a 48-46 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Lehigh maintained momentum, opening the fourth with a 5-0 run to extend its lead to 53-46 before Quinnipiac called for a timeout with 8:24 remaining in regulation. Out of the timeout, the Bobcats were able to respond with a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 53-52 with 6:48 left in the fourth. However, Lehigh countered with an 8-0 run to push ahead 61-52.
The Bobcats never wavered, going on a 9-0 run, capped by a mid-range jumper from Caverly to tie the game at 61-61 with 58 seconds remaining.
After Lehigh pulled ahead by two after a pair of free-throws, Quinnipiac came down and took the lead off Caverly's old-fashioned three-point play to go ahead 64-63 with 16 seconds remaining.
The Bobcats were able to seal the game via two stops and free-throws, holding on for the 67-64 victory.
