BURLINGTON, VT – Quinnipiac men's soccer is set for the opening round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament, heading north to square off vs. #8 Vermont on Thursday night at 7:00 PM. The game will be televised live on ESPN+.
SECOND NCAA TOURNAMENT FOR QU
- Quinnipiac defeated Niagara and Iona in the postseason tournament to capture the MAAC title.
- The Bobcats last appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2013 – the program's first year in the league.
- QU has now reached two NCAA Tournaments under Head Coach Eric Da Costa since the Bobcats joined the MAAC in 2013. The Bobcats have won five regular season MAAC titles during that span, as well, and have reached the league title match five different times.

THE MATCHUP: vs #8 VERMONT
- Vermont went 13-3-2 in the regular season, posting a 5-1-1 America East mark.
- The Catamounts lost, 1-0, in the America East postseason tournament vs. Albany.
- The Bobcats defeated Vermont during the lone matchup between the two teams earlier this season. Brage Aasen netted a pair of first-half goals to help power QU to the road win.
- QU is 2-2-1 vs. Vermont since 2005.
- The Bobcats went 6-2-2 in the MAAC in 2022, posting an 11-4-3 record in total.
- QU earned four straight shutouts from Oct. 19 – Oct. 29 in league play.
- Quinnipiac has won five MAAC regular season titles under Head Coach Eric Da Costa since joining the league (2013, 2014, 2016, 2020-21, 2022).
- Quinnipiac men's soccer captured three major MAAC Men's Soccer awards, as announced by the league office on Monday, Nov. 7.
- David Bercedo has earned the MAAC Golden Boot Award, Alexander Stjernegaard is the MAAC Rookie of the Year, and Eric Da Costa has been named the league's Coach of the Year.
- The Bobcats also had six student-athletes earn All-MAAC status.
- Brage Aasen, David Bercedo, Tomas Svecula and Alexander Stjernegaard were all tabbed All-MAAC First Team honorees, and Sander Sonsterud and Karl Netzell received Second Team status.
- The Bobcats have been selected No. 9 overall in the last United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I East Region Poll, as announced by the organization on Nov. 8.
- The Bobcats have scored 54 total goals and tallied 56 assists on the season. Both rank #1 nationally heading into the NCAA Tournament.
- David Bercedo has 13 goals – a mark that ranks third in all of Division I soccer.
- 21 different Bobcats have recorded a point this year.
- Senior captain David Bercedo leads QU in goals (14) and points (35). Bercedo ranks 4th nationally in goals.
- Alexander Stjernegaard has a team-best 12 assists in his first year at QU. He also has four goals.
- Tomas Svecula has nine goals and four assists, and Brage Aasen has four goals and seven assists.
- Sam McCann has also chipped in with seven goals for the Bobcats.
- The Bobcats were selected No. 4 in the 2022 Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the MAAC office on Thursday, Aug. 18.
- QU earned 78 points in the poll, finishing just behind Marist, Rider and Fairfield for the top spot.
- Senior forward Brage Aasen – Quinnipiac's leading goal scorer from a season ago – was named to the Preseason All-MAAC team for Quinnipiac. Aasen recorded a team-best 11 goals to go along with three assists last year. The All-MAAC selection from a season ago has tallied 17 goals and 13 assists over his first 43 collegiate games.
- Former Quinnipiac standout Eric Da Costa will enter his 18th season at the helm of the Bobcats men's soccer program in the fall of 2022. He is the longest tenured men's soccer coach in Quinnipiac's NCAA history.
- A product of Quinnipiac's strong soccer tradition, Da Costa's formula for success and his reputation for assembling winning teams are evident after 16 seasons at his alma mater.
- Da Costa has a 144-123-55 record during his time at Quinnipiac, and has led the Bobcats to a postseason conference tournament appearance in 10 of the last 11 seasons (2012 in the NEC, 2013-spring 2021 in the MAAC).
- Since joining the MAAC prior to the 2013 season, Quinnipiac has appeared in five MAAC Tournament title contests (2013, 2016, 2018, spring 2021, 2022). Under Da Costa's tutelage, the Bobcats have posted an impressive 59-24-13 mark in regular season MAAC games.
- Quinnipiac's fall 2022 schedule features 18 regular season contests in total.
- The Bobcats will host nine home games at the QU Soccer Stadium in Hamden.
- QU begins MAAC play on Wednesday, Sept. 28, when the Bobcats travel to Loudonville, N.Y. for a date with Siena. The Bobcats then return home to the QU Soccer Field for their MAAC home opener against in-state rival Fairfield on Oct. 1.
- The Bobcats won nine games in the fall 2021 campaign, going 6-3 at the QU Soccer Stadium in Hamden. QU won five consecutive games to begin the season, defeating Boston College (first time since 2007), UMass Lowell, Sacred Heart, CCSU and Harvard.
- The Bobcats received votes twice in the fall of 2021 for the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll – which recognizes the top Division I programs in the nation. Da Costa and the Bobcats claimed three All-MAAC awards at the end of the regular season: Brage Aasen: All-MAAC First Team, Paulo Soares: All-MAAC Second Team, Sam McCann: MAAC All-Rookie Team.
- Quinnipiac finished 9-8 in total (4-6 MAAC).
