Brage Aasen & Tomas Svecula Score in QU's Second-Ever NCAA Tournament
BURLINGTON, VT – Quinnipiac men's soccer battled on the road at No. 8 Vermont in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, falling by the final score of 3-2 in overtime.
Brage Aasen scored in the first half, and Tomas Svecula scored in the second half for the Bobcats.
Vermont's Alex Nagy scored with 1:28 left in the second overtime frame to send the Catamounts to the second round.
Quinnipiac completes its second-ever NCAA Tournament run. The Bobcats finished 2022 with a 13-5-3 record, going 6-2-2 in conference play to win their fifth regular season MAAC championship.

SCORING SUMMARY
- (5' – Vermont 1, Quinnipiac 0): Max Murray got the Catamounts on the board first, scoring his eighth goal of the year to make it 1-0 early on in favor of the home team.
- (41' – Quinnipiac 1, Vermont 1): Brage Aasen tied things 1-1 just before halftime. Alexander Stjernegaard played a beautiful touch across to Aasen, and the senior blasted a shot the deflected off a Vermont defender and into the back of the net.
- (73' – Quinnipiac 2, Vermont 1): Tomas Svecula drew a foul inside the box, then proceeded to bury the penalty kick chance to give the Bobcats' their first lead of the night.
- (75' – Quinnipiac 2, Vermont 2): Noah Egan scored off a Vermont corner chance, tying things 2-2.
- (109' – Vermont 3, Quinnipiac 2): Alex Nagy scored with less than two minutes remaining to send Vermont to the NCAA Tournament, blasting a left-footed volley into the back of the net off a blocked shot.
- Brage Aasen's goal was his fifth of the season. Aasen finishes 2022 with five goals and seven assists.
- Tomas Svecula netted his 10th score of the season or QU. He scored five times over QU's last five games, and three times in postseason play.
- Total shots were 29-15 in favor of Vermont – and 5-5 in overtime.
- Karl Netzell made eight saves for the Bobcats, including multiple diving stops to help keep the Bobcats within striking distance.
