Diaz and Gunes Lead QU Past Rider in Road Sweep

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ. – Aryanah Diaz led the way with 13 kills and four service aces, as the Quinnipiac volleyball program downed Rider in straight sets on the road Saturday afternoon inside of Alumni Gym.
Damla Gunes added 28 assists in the victory, while Nicole Legg added six kills and three blocks.

SET ONE (25-22, Quinnipiac)
The Bobcats jumped out to an 8-5 lead in the set before the Broncs responded with a 5-1 run to push ahead 12-9 and forcing QU to call a timeout. Out of the break in play, QU fought back to knot the set at 13-13 before the two sides traded points to a 20-20 tie in the frame. Back-to-back kills from Alexandra Tennon and Nicole Legg, followed by a block from Damla Gunes and Legg gave QU a 23-20 advantage and forced Rider to use a timeout.
Out of the timeout, Rider scored consecutive points to trim the Bobcats' lead to 23-22, forcing the Bobcats to use their final timeout of the set. Out of the final timeout, QU took the following two points to secure the set win.
SET TWO (25-15)
Rider opened the set taking the first five points before QU called a timeout. Out of the timeout, Quinnipiac responded with a 10-1 run to take a 10-6 lead, forcing Rider to take a timeout. The Bobcats never looked back in the set, pushing ahead 15-10 before going on to take the set 25-15.
SET THREE (25-13)
The Bobcats maintained momentum into the third set, taking a commanding 19-12 lead before Rider called a timeout. The lead proved to be too much for the Broncs, as the Bobcats coasted to a 25-13 set win and 3-0 match win.
NOTES:
● Diaz led the Bobcats with 13 kills
● She also added a team best four service aces
● Legg contributed six kills and three blocks
● Alexandra Tennon added four kills and seven digs
● It snapped her consecutive match streak of double-figure kills at 13
● Damla Gunes posted a game-high 28 assists
